Got an IUD today 😣
Today I had a Mirena IUD placed.
The experience itself wasn’t pleasant, but I definitely got in my head prior to my appointment and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it’d be.

Understanding the process of getting an IUD can help alleviate anxiety. This long-term birth control method involves a simple procedure where a healthcare provider inserts a small T-shaped device into the uterus. It’s recommended to take pain relief, like Tylenol, before your appointment to minimize discomfort. Based on numerous experiences shared online, many women report varying pain levels, often rating the insertion as a 6/10. Experiencers also mention that those who have recently given birth tend to have a smoother process. After the procedure, light bleeding and mild cramping are common and may last for a few days, akin to a mild period. It's vital to follow up with your doctor about a month later to ensure proper placement and address any concerns you may have. Overall, sharing personal insights and gathering information from others can make the journey less daunting and more informed.
