as a guyanese gyal, skincare prep wasn’t taught to me. natural homemade remedies YES but i didn’t know how do i prepare my skin before i pack makeup products on it. after facing my terrible cystic acne phase which i deaded in 2018, i realized i had to heal my gut first. i can go into depth of that but as for this video, i always make sure to do these 4 steps before i apply any sort of makeup on. it has been working for me since 2018. it’s my holy grail. this skincare prep is one of the reasons i cured my acne bumpy skin. the products are interchangeable but the routine stays the same. toner, face oil, serum & moisturizer + spf if using.

PS: after you exfoliate and cleanse, make sure you do these 4 steps before applying any sort of makeup. ✨

... Read morePreparing your skin before applying makeup is often overlooked but is essential for achieving a flawless look and maintaining healthy skin. From my personal experience, adopting a consistent skincare prep involving toner, face oil, serum, and moisturizer has transformed my skin, especially after battling cystic acne. Each step plays a unique role: toner balances pH and removes any residue left after cleansing, face oils deeply nourish and provide a protective layer, serums target specific concerns like hydration or pigmentation, and moisturizers lock in all the beneficial ingredients. An additional tip is to always include SPF as the final step if you’re heading outdoors, as protecting your skin from UV damage is crucial for long-term skin health and acne prevention. I’ve found that switching brands within these categories doesn’t compromise the routine’s effectiveness; it’s the consistent sequence and quality of the products that matter most. Alongside this regimen, regular exfoliation and deep cleansing set the foundation so the skin is receptive to these nourishing products. This approach not only prepared my skin for makeup flawlessly but also helped restore its natural glow and reduced acne flare-ups over time. The products I use now, such as those from brands like Hanyul, Fenty Skin, Byoma, and The Ordinary, complement this routine perfectly. For anyone struggling with bumpy or acne-prone skin, focusing on gut health and using gentle yet effective skincare prep steps before makeup can be a game-changer. It’s empowering to realize that skincare isn't just about the products but understanding your skin’s needs and healing it from within. Make these four steps a ritual and watch your skin transform into a glowing canvas ready for makeup application.
