You guys, I'm not even kidding when I say these DIY Mother's Day coasters were a massive hit! The joy on the moms' faces, and especially my own mom's reaction (yes, she cried happy tears!), made all the effort worth it. If you're scrambling for last-minute Mother's Day gifts or searching for a truly meaningful homemade craft that even the littlest hands can help with, look no further. These adorable coasters are perfect for kindergarteners and preschoolers to make and give. Finding meaningful Mother's Day ideas for kindergarten students can sometimes be tricky. You want something cute, practical, and something that truly captures their unique personality. These tiles allow for just that! They're not just another craft; they become a cherished keepsake. Plus, it's a fantastic activity for kids to engage in, promoting fine motor skills and creativity. One of the best parts about this project is how affordable and accessible the materials are. Here's what you'll need: Ceramic Tiles: You can find some of these at places like Home Depot for around 11 cents each! If you buy them in bulk, they're cheaper. I used standard white square tiles. Square Template/Paper: Cut out a square template for the kids to draw their pictures onto. I was lucky enough to get copies for freeeee from another kindergarten teacher, but plain paper works perfectly. Mod Podge: This is your secret weapon! It acts as both glue and a clear protective coat. A small bottle goes a long way – I made about 16 of these and used less than half the bottle. These tiny bottles usually go for like less than 3 bucks. Paintbrushes/Foam Brushes: For applying the Mod Podge. Kids' Drawings/Artwork: This is where the magic happens! Encourage them to draw pictures of their moms, or things they associate with their moms. I wrote down the first few words that came to mind when I think of my mom and drew some pictures to represent those words. Here's how we made our super cute Mother's Day gifts: Prepare the Artwork: Have the children draw their pictures on the pre-cut square paper. Encourage them to be creative! Apply Mod Podge to Tile: You're just gonna apply a generous coat of Mod Podge to the clean ceramic tile. Make sure it's evenly spread. Position the Artwork: Carefully place the child's drawing onto the Mod Podge-covered tile. Seal and Smooth: Gently try your best to just push out all those air bubbles from under the paper. You can use your fingers or a soft roller. Once positioned, apply another layer of Mod Podge over the top of the drawing. This seals it in and gives it that glossy, protective finish. Make sure to cover the entire paper and slightly overlap onto the tile. Dry Time: Let the coasters dry completely. This might take several hours, or even overnight, depending on humidity. Optional: Add Felt Pads: Once dry, you can add small felt pads to the bottom corners of the tile to prevent scratching surfaces. To make these even more special, you can write the child's name and the year on the back of the tile with a permanent marker before gifting. These coasters are truly unique and show just how much thought and love went into them. Look at how stinking cute our Mother's Day gifts turned out! Every mom who received one was absolutely thrilled. It's truly one of the most heartwarming homemade Mother's Day gifts from a child you could ask for!
