day in my life at Columbia University 🤍

Here is my little day in pics!! I chose this day to feature because I found myself doing a lot of the things I am loving adding in my daily routine as a student.

One of which is starting early and doing work first thing. I talk about this a lot, but that's because I am her biggest fan. I just feel so much more productive at the end of the day if I started with getting things done in the morning before my day gets hectic!

I love trying to do some work or something outside. It has been sooo good for my mental health and productivity.

Treating myself with something fun is always something I have done, if anything too much sometimes lol, but still works as a good motivation!

Focusing on my hobbies at night instead of working super long hours. Going to dance classes just for fun has been something I have loved prioritizing once my work is done, and it makes me super happy to get back to it!

... Read moreStepping into university life, especially at a place like Columbia, can feel like a whirlwind. My 'day in the life' gives you a snapshot, but what's truly helpful for navigating campus life and thriving as a student goes beyond just one day. Here’s some advice I’ve gathered for making the most of your Columbia University experience, whether you're an admitted student exploring your options or already deep in your studies. First, let's talk about establishing a routine that works for *you*. As you saw, I'm a big fan of starting early and tackling work first thing. This strategy, for me, sets a productive tone for the entire day. Experiment with your own peak productivity times. Maybe you're a night owl, or perhaps like me, you thrive in the quiet morning hours. Finding your rhythm for studying can involve discovering your favorite spot on campus – perhaps one of Columbia’s beautiful libraries, where you can delve into your tasks, or a quieter corner outdoors, like where I read my notes, soaking up some fresh air. Don't underestimate the power of a good study environment. Campus life here is incredibly vibrant, and getting involved is key to feeling connected. While my day included a dance class, which I love, there are countless clubs and organizations to explore. From academic societies and cultural groups to intramural sports and volunteer opportunities, there’s something for everyone. I've found that participating in these activities not only enriches your student life but also helps you build a strong support network. These connections can be invaluable, whether you're collaborating on a group project, attending a research meeting (even virtually via Zoom!), or just grabbing a Pret London coffee with friends before class. Balancing academics with personal well-being is another crucial aspect of life at Columbia. It's easy to get caught up in the demands of coursework, but self-care isn't a luxury; it's a necessity. Simple things, like making sure you’re staying hydrated with a trusty Stanley cup or taking a moment to enjoy a treat from Levain Bakery after a long day, can make a significant difference. My advice is to consciously schedule time for hobbies and relaxation. Whether it's continuing a passion like dance in a local studio or exploring new interests, these moments help prevent burnout and keep your mind fresh. Remember, university is about growth, and that includes personal growth beyond the classroom. For admitted students, my biggest tip is to really engage with the campus during admitted students' day or any orientation events. Walk around, talk to current students, visit departmental offices, and get a feel for the rhythm of life here. Ask questions about everything – from academic support services to dining options and residential life. Understanding the resources available, like academic advising or mental health services, before you even start can make your transition much smoother. Columbia offers so much; it's just a matter of discovering what resonates with you and how you can best leverage it for a fulfilling university experience.
