tips for making friends in college 🤍

College was some of the best years of my life and I truly believe that was thanks to the friends that I made while there. The best part about the experience is that there are so many initiatives, student groups, and activities at most universities geared towards helping students meet others, and my best advice is to fully take advantage of those opportunities!

Some of these that I participated in and really enjoyed were student athletic groups, study groups, and greek life. I found out about these by going to club fars, looking on my university website and instagram, and just talking to people I sat near in classes!

Engaging in campus activities is crucial; not only do they present opportunities to meet like-minded individuals, but they also allow for shared experiences that can strengthen bonds. Participating in team sports is a popular way to connect with peers. Whether you join your university's official athletic teams or community club teams, you’ll find that collaborative effort fosters friendships built on shared goals and interests. Similarly, study groups can be a great avenue for both academic assistance and social interaction. By tackling coursework together, you can develop rapport over shared challenges, which often leads to lasting friendships. Another way to cultivate friendships is by getting involved in student organizations. These clubs often focus on specific interests or hobbies, providing a platform to meet others with similar passions. Greek life is particularly notable, but there are countless other groups to explore—cultural clubs, academic societies, and service organizations all exist to help students engage with one another while contributing positively to the campus community. Don’t underestimate the power of simple conversation; starting a chat with classmates can open doors to new friendships. Attend club fairs, join events highlighted on your university’s social media, and be open to connecting with people sitting nearby in classes. Embrace the diverse experiences around you, and you’ll find that building friendships in college can be both fulfilling and fun.
