reading books 4 school without getting distracted

I would say the thing I struggle the most with in school is required reading. I am a pretty slow reader so I find myself getting distracted a good bit. Also for school reading, it is typically not a book you necessarily enjoy reading.

I have worked a lot to find ways that help with my brain wondering of while doing my required reading, and here are the things that work best for me:

Breaking up my readings into smaller chunks and taking a break after each section. For example if I had 50 pages I needed to read, I would break it up into 20, 20 and 10 (because the longer the red the harder it gets for me to stay focused) and after the first I would go for a very quick walk, and then the second would be getting to go on my phone for 10 minutes etc.

Highlighting my text has been super great for me. Pro tip: if the book is not yours, you can get highlighter stickers!

Listening to music is not for everyone, but it really works for me. It's all about finding the right music to help you focus!

... Read moreMany students find it challenging to concentrate on required reading for school, especially when the material is dry or uninteresting. Here are some additional tips to enhance your reading experience and focus more effectively: 1. **Set Clear Goals**: Before starting, define what you want to achieve from your reading session. Break larger assignments into specific targets, such as chapters or sections. 2. **Create a Distraction-Free Zone**: Find a quiet place to read without interruptions. Consider turning off notifications on your devices or using apps that block distracting websites. 3. **Schedule Reading Time**: Designate specific time slots in your day for reading. Sticking to a routine can help signal your brain that it's time to concentrate. 4. **Use Visual Aids**: Consider using mind maps or charts to visualize key concepts in the readings. This can make the content more engaging and easier to comprehend. 5. **Join a Study Group**: Collaborating with peers can provide accountability and make reading more enjoyable. Discussing the material can deepen your understanding. 6. **Reflect on What You've Read**: Take a few minutes after each session to summarize in your own words what you learned. This reinforces comprehension and retention. 7. **Incorporate Breaks**: Longer reading sessions can lead to fatigue and distraction. Implement the Pomodoro technique, where you study for 25 minutes and then take a short break to refresh your mind. By applying these strategies aligned with your existing tips, you’ll likely find required reading less daunting and more productive.
