Why I took 8ams from a straight A student

This is not for everyone, but I am team 8ams! Or at least 9ams! I took morning classes every year of college and I feel like it was so helpful for setting good habits in college and keeping me on task!

I feel like starting your day early is key in college or at keats for me it was. This way I could get up and get things done before all of the distractions of the day started.

I also felt like I focused better in the morning classes, this is obviously personal for each student, I just found this out about myself through my time. This is why I recommended trying it out to see what works for you!

I also really thought that starting early is what helped me be so well rounded in college because I did a lot of my school work throughout the day so that I could be in clubs, volunteer, and hangout with friends in the evenings!

Again, this isn't for everyone, and I still wouldn't recommend a Friday morning 8am, but a Tuesday Thursday isn't bad!!

... Read moreI know what you're thinking – 8 AM classes? No way! But let me tell you, as someone who embraced them throughout college, it really did become my hidden advantage. When I first signed up, I was skeptical, but the benefits quickly became clear. One thing I noticed right away was the incredible focus I had in those early classes. It felt like my brain was fresh, ready to absorb information before the day's chaos truly began. Plus, a huge perk I discovered was that many 8 AM sections tend to be smaller. This meant more opportunities for direct engagement with professors and peers. Building those relationships with faculty was invaluable – it made asking questions easier and even opened doors for research opportunities later on. I truly believe that focusing better in early classes isn't just about being awake; it's about being in an environment conducive to deep learning. Beyond academics, the routine itself was a game-changer. My friends would often struggle to get anything done before noon, while I'd already finished a lecture, grabbed coffee, and was often tackling assignments. This gave me so much more time for assignments and quiet study before it gets busy on campus. Imagine having a head start on your week, every week! This early momentum meant my afternoons and evenings were genuinely free. Instead of cramming, I could enjoy my extracurriculars, volunteer, or simply hang out with friends guilt-free. It even gave me the flexibility to fit in workouts, meaning more time for activities like going to the gym – something that often gets pushed aside in busy college schedules. Of course, it's not always sunshine and rainbows. There were days I wanted to hit snooze, especially after a late-night study session. But I learned a few tricks to make it sustainable. First, prioritizing sleep became non-negotiable. I aimed for a consistent bedtime, even on weekends. Second, I prepped as much as possible the night before – clothes laid out, bag packed, coffee maker set. This minimal effort in the morning made a huge difference. Finally, I always made sure to schedule my most enjoyable classes for those early slots when possible. Knowing I had a subject I genuinely liked made getting out of bed a little easier. It might sound daunting, but if you're looking to maximize your college experience, boost your productivity, and still have a vibrant social life, I genuinely encourage you to give those 8 AMs a shot. You might just find your own secret to success!
