tips for making your college schedule

Here are some of my tips for when you are planning your college schedules.

My first year I thought it was going to be a lot like high school, so I tried to take back to back classes and a lot of them. I quickly found out this is not the case. I am not sure what happens, but it becomes a lot harder to pay attention to back to back lectures.

Also, there is just a lot more work that needs to be done outside of the classroom, so it is just not reasonable to take as many classes as you used to (at least not for me).

I was a STEM girly so I also had a lot of science and math classes to take, btu I tried to split it up by taking a math course, a physics course, one other science course that was maybe more niche and not a common lecture course, and then and english or arts course to keep things different.

So typically two main tough stem courses, one that was not stem based, and a seminar or niche topic course is how I did it!

Obviously everyone is different, so fine what works for you, this is just what worked for me.

... Read moreMaking a college schedule can be challenging, but with the right strategies, you can optimize your learning experience. One critical approach is to avoid scheduling back-to-back classes, as this can lead to difficulties in maintaining focus throughout the day. It's essential to find a rhythm that works for your study style and energy levels. For instance, consider that STEM courses often require additional time for labs or projects, while humanities classes can foster creativity and critical thinking. Incorporating a variety of subjects into your schedule helps prevent burnout. Mixing different types of classes—like sciences, humanities, and elective seminars—can balance your workload and keep your studies engaging. Additionally, be mindful of class timings; taking courses too early or too late can negatively impact your energy and participation. Many students also find it helpful to consult resources like Rate My Professors to choose instructors whose teaching styles suit their learning preferences. This proactive approach can make a noticeable difference in your college journey. Ultimately, craft a schedule that not only meets academic requirements but also supports your mental well-being. Each student's ideal schedule is unique, so experiment with different combinations to find what maximizes your productivity and enjoyment in learning.

If you do have to take a lot of back to back classes, make sure you have snacks and water on you in case you get hungry!! I was a music major in college and I had a lot of classes back to back and this helped me a ton!
