Come find the best study spot at Columbia with me

There are literally so many great places to study on this campus. That’s honestly one of my favorite things about it and there are so many I could even make a part two so let me know!!

When it comes to a study spot for me, I think I look the most at how easy it is to find a spot because I don’t wanna spend all day walking around how quiet it is and the vibes in general.

For this reason if you’re coming on campus to study, I say the best place to go is Butler just because they’re so many options so you won’t waste too much time finding a spot.

Joe’s though is one of my favorite places to meet people and discuss projects/ network!!

... Read moreWhen I first arrived at Columbia, finding the perfect study spot felt like a mini-quest! Luckily, our campus is brimming with incredible options, each offering a unique vibe. But if you're like me and often find yourself Googling "Columbia University Butler Library interior" or "where Columbia students study," then you're in for a treat. My absolute go-to, especially when I need to really buckle down, is definitely Butler Library. The iconic "big room in Butler" truly lives up to its reputation – those ornate, high ceilings and massive chandeliers aren't just beautiful; they create an incredibly productive and quiet atmosphere. I’ve spent countless hours there with my laptop, an iced coffee, and my glasses, just soaking in the scholarly ambiance. It feels grand, yet surprisingly focused, making it ideal for deep concentration. For days when I need absolute silence, the "Butler (these cubicles)" section is a lifesaver. These private nooks, surrounded by classic wooden bookshelves, offer unparalleled quiet for those long study sessions. It’s perfect when you need to tune out the world and dive completely into your work. But not every study session needs to be silent. When I'm looking to meet up with classmates for a group project or just to network, "Joes NWC" is my preferred spot. It’s got a totally different vibe – very modern with huge windows overlooking the city buildings. It’s excellent for buddy studying, allowing for easy discussion. A friendly tip: outlets can be scarce, so make sure your laptop is fully charged or bring a portable power bank! I often find myself here with my headphones plugged in, enjoying an iced coffee while collaborating. For those beautiful days when the weather is just too good to be indoors, "college walk" offers a refreshing change of scenery. I love setting up on the stone steps with my study papers, sometimes filled with complex equations, and my light blue handbag nearby, enjoying the fresh air and campus buzz. It can get a bit loud, so it’s best for lighter reading, brainstorming, or catching up on emails rather than intense focus. If I’m over on Barnard's campus, "Milstein - Barnard's library" is another fantastic modern option. It offers great seating and is generally quiet, though I've noticed the glare from the large windows can be a bit much in the afternoon, so pick your spot wisely! To make the most of your Columbia study experience, here are a few extra tips. For Butler, try to get there earlier in the morning or later in the evening to snag a prime spot, especially in the big room. The cubicles are often easier to find during off-peak hours. Always scout for outlets, especially if you're settling in for a long haul. And don't forget to explore the different floors and wings of each library; every area has its own unique ambiance. Finding your perfect study spot at Columbia is part of the adventure, and with so many options, you're bound to discover your own productive haven!
