my old front door, part 1 #ad
color: Taupe ST-153 @BEHR® Paint
Replacing an old front door is a project that can truly elevate the look and feel of your home’s entrance. When I decided to take on this task, I focused heavily on selecting the right door and finish to complement my home’s style. After finding a secondhand door that had some great character and unique features, I knew that refinishing it would bring out its natural beauty. One of the biggest challenges was dealing with the existing condition of the door—different stain colors on each side and wear that made it feel dated. Sanding it down was essential to create a smooth, even surface. I experimented with several BEHR stain colors and ultimately chose Taupe ST-153, BEHR’s 2026 Exterior Stain Color of the Year. This shade is subtle yet sophisticated, and it enhances the rich grain of white oak beautifully, allowing the wood’s natural texture to shine through. Applying the exterior stain required patience; I took care to add multiple thin coats rather than rushing, ensuring durability and a rich finish that will protect the door from weather and wear. This project also reinforced the importance of choosing quality products and taking your time for the best results. The transformation was remarkable — the new finish not only improved the door's appearance but also sealed up gaps that previously let in drafts and bugs. If you're considering a door makeover, sourcing a unique secondhand door can add personality to your home and be an eco-friendly choice. Pair it with a high-quality exterior stain like BEHR’s Taupe ST-153 to achieve both longevity and aesthetic appeal. I can’t wait to share the next phases of this project, including door installation and final touches, so stay tuned!
