hosting as a first time home owner!

On March 12, 2025, my husband (then fiancé) and I bought our first home! 🏡 After years of renting a townhome in central Tucson, we made the leap and prucased a place of our own on the outskirts of the city — and wow, have we learned a lot over the past few months!

One thing I was most excited for was hosting. I’ve always loved gathering people around good food, conversation, and of course… wine nights. 🍷 We’ve had a few small get-togethers so far, but we’re still settling in and figuring it all out.

If you’ve been through this too — setting up a new space while trying to make it feel welcoming but not spending an exorbitant anount all at once — I’d love to hear your tips! What helped you feel more at home, and ready to host? Did you host before your house was ready-ready or did you wait till it was more put together?

Transforming your new space into a warm and inviting environment doesn't have to break the bank. Start with simple decor ideas, like adding fresh flowers or personalized art pieces that reflect your style. Utilize soft lighting through lamps and candles to create a cozy atmosphere that enhances evening gatherings. Planning meals in advance is a practical way to reduce stress when hosting. Consider easy recipes that can be prepared ahead of time, ensuring that you spend more time with your guests. Moreover, keep your kitchen stocked with versatile ingredients that can be quickly transformed into crowd-pleasers. Investing in a few essential kitchen tools can also elevate your hosting game; think about a good quality set of knives, sturdy cookware, and stylish serving dishes. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your friends and family for hosting advice. Everyone has their unique tricks that make gatherings memorable. Whether it’s cocktail recipes, engaging games, or party themes, tapping into your network can provide fresh ideas and ease your anxiety. Also, hosting smaller events as you adjust to your new space can build confidence and make the experience more enjoyable. Remember, it’s about creating an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, so focus on that rather than perfection. Lastly, embrace the journey of making your house feel like home. Each gathering teaches valuable lessons and helps you develop your own hosting style. Whether you're planning dinner parties, casual get-togethers, or festive celebrations, relish each moment and the new memories you’re creating in your first home.
