Reflection Questions for New Relationships

This is honestly more of a reminder for myself than anyone else !

I was recently around a month into seeing this guy, sort of in the early stages of dating. I had this gut feeling on the second date that something was off, but I couldn’t really put a finger on what. He checked all my boxes and I enjoyed spending time with him…. it just didn’t feel like he brought out the best, most inspired version of me.

After a bit more time, we had actually gotten into a few little arguments, and I realized that in these moments of frustration, he brought out a bit of a toxic, ugly side of me— not because he was being disrespectful or rude, but because we were fundamentally not on the same emotional wavelength.

I am very, very sensitive, and he is not. And that’s okay, but it became clear that the disconnect in our emotional worlds was really exhausting … it felt like I was speaking a different language. I had to constantly over-explain myself, and he eventually would understand, but it took so much work to get there.

After talking to my therapist and friends, and after spending time reflecting, I decided to end it. I knew that if we kept going, it would only get harder and harder as I got more invested. It was sort of heartbreaking at first (I’m sensitive af lol) but I knew I was making the right decision.

♥️♥️♥️

Here are some of the questions I wanted to share that helped me clarify how I really felt about the relationship. I’m really glad that I went through this experience because I’m continually learning more about what I want/don’t want, what my needs are, and how I function in certain dynamics.

Dating isn’t black & white, it’s hard as fuxk, but I’m really glad I trusted my gut and did the hard thing, and the right thing, in the end.
