... Read moreFeeling guilty after cutting people off is a common emotional response rooted in societal conditioning and personal values. Many of us grow up believing that maintaining relationships, no matter how toxic or draining, is a moral obligation. This often creates an internal conflict between wanting to protect our peace and fearing judgment or loneliness. However, setting boundaries and limiting access to your life—even with family or long-time friends—is a crucial step toward emotional well-being. It’s important to recognize that your mental health should never be compromised to preserve relationships that harm you mentally or emotionally. When you choose to cut ties, it’s not an act of cruelty but a form of self-respect and healing. Acknowledging that "not everyone deserves access to you" empowers you to prioritize your happiness and reduce negative stress. To ease the guilt, it helps to reflect on the reasons behind your decision and remind yourself that protecting your peace is a healthy boundary, not a selfish act. Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals who respect your limits fosters a balanced and thriving social circle. Ultimately, walking away from harmful relationships frees up space for personal growth and positive connections. It’s an important reminder that your well-being comes first, and sometimes, saying no is the kindest thing you can do for yourself.

Because we've been taught that its rude, and we have to put others feelings first and core for others. We've been taught that our feelings, wants and needs cant be a priority. We feel guilty, because society and family have conditioned us to feel that way.
