Silence makes me uncomfortable

#GirlTalk #lemon8challenge

I can’t just sit in quiet anymore — there’s always a podcast, TikTok, or background noise. It’s like my brain forgot how to rest. Sometimes I wonder if I’m tired or just afraid to be alone with my thoughts. Peace shouldn’t feel foreign, but lately it does.

... Read moreIt's wild how much our world has changed, isn't it? I sometimes feel like I'm not just uncomfortable with silence, but genuinely *addicted to overstimulation*. It's like my brain has been rewired to constantly crave input, whether it's a podcast, a video, or just background chatter. If I'm not actively listening or watching something, a strange sense of unease creeps in, and I start to wonder if I'm the only one who feels this way. I’ve been reflecting on this a lot lately, and it’s not just about avoiding boredom. For me, the quiet often brings with it a flood of thoughts I’d rather not confront. It's like silence is an open invitation for my anxieties and worries to take center stage. I’ve noticed that if I don’t fill the space with external noise, my mind immediately jumps to my to-do list, past mistakes, or future uncertainties. It's exhausting, and honestly, a bit scary to admit. This constant need for distraction leaves me feeling perpetually tired, yet oddly wired. But I'm starting to realize that this isn't sustainable. While it feels safe to keep my brain busy, I'm missing out on genuinely resting and processing things. I’ve been trying small steps to gently reintroduce silence into my life. For example, instead of immediately putting on a podcast during my morning coffee, I try to just sit and observe for five minutes. Sometimes I journal during this time, just letting my thoughts flow onto the page without judgment. It’s a way to acknowledge those uncomfortable thoughts rather than running from them, and it slowly makes the quiet feel less menacing. Another thing I've found helpful is taking short walks without headphones. Just listening to the sounds around me – the birds, the rustle of leaves, the distant hum of the city – helps ground me. It’s not total silence, but it’s a different, more natural kind of background noise that feels less demanding than curated digital content. I’m also trying to designate specific times or places in my home as “quiet zones” – no screens, no music, just space to be. It’s a work in progress, and some days are definitely harder than others, but I’m hopeful that I can eventually find peace in the quiet again. If you're struggling with this too, know that you're not alone, and even small steps can make a difference.

Wow, I’m coming across all your posts and I feel like we really in so many ways. I thought I was the only one I cannot sit in silence for too long. I’ll end up playing something or singing out loud. I just need background noise all the time.
