Two Twisted Crowns Book Review
I loved this book! I feel like the hype for this book scared me away from it for a while, but with the first book under my belt, I moved on to this one!
I enjoyed it souch as it is unlike anything I've ever read in my life! I will say it was so different from what I have read that it was hard to get into and stay focused at points, but once the climax came, I was off like a race horse!
Have you ever read The Sheperd King Duology by Rachel Gillig? What are your thoughts?

Okay, so I absolutely devoured 'Two Twisted Crowns' and I'm still thinking about it! While the initial pace can feel a bit slow as Rachel Gillig meticulously builds her world and sets the stage, trust me when I say sticking with it is incredibly rewarding. That initial investment in the world-building and character introductions truly pays off, leading to a climax that had me completely engrossed. Let’s talk about the characters, especially Ione and Elm. Ione's journey is a masterclass in complexity; her decisions and growth feel so organic and impactful. And the dynamic between Ione and Elm? It’s utterly captivating, full of tension, difficult choices, and unexpected turns that keep you guessing about their true intentions and allegiances. Their individual developments and interactions are definitely a highlight, embodying the 'twisted' nature hinted at in the title. Speaking of the visual appeal, if you've seen the 'Two Twisted Crowns' book cover, you know it's stunning! It perfectly encapsulates the dark, mystical atmosphere of the story and provides a great visual representation of the fantasy world you're about to dive into. It's one of those covers that truly makes you want to pick up the book. For those curious about the 'spicy chapters,' I'd say 'Two Twisted Crowns' isn't primarily a steamy romance. While there are certainly intense emotional connections, elements of attraction, and profound relationships, the narrative's main focus is on the intricate plot, the political maneuvering, and the deep character development. It’s a fantasy novel with romantic undertones, rather than a romance novel with fantasy elements. So, if you're looking for explicit scenes, this might not be your top pick, but if you love rich storytelling and character-driven plots, you're in for a treat! This book is the second in *The Shepherd King Duology*, so if you haven't read the first one, I highly recommend starting there to get the full scope of the story and the established relationships. The way Gillig weaves together the elements of the story, the incredible world-building, and those unexpected twists truly makes it stand out. It really cemented my 4 out of 5 stars for this read! It’s a journey about transformation, power, and the difficult choices that shape who we become, much like the idea of 'the girl and the king and the monster they became' – a theme that resonates deeply throughout the narrative.
