How do yall annoy your cat?
She lowkey loves me 🥰
My cat, Mittens, is the queen of drama. If I so much as breathe too loudly when she's napping, I get the death stare. But I've also discovered some silly little ways to 'annoy' her that she secretly tolerates, and sometimes even loves! It's all about finding that sweet spot between playful teasing and genuine irritation, making sure it's always done with love and never causes them stress. One of my go-to moves is the 'slow blink stare.' You know how cats communicate affection with a slow blink? Well, I sometimes mimic it, but hold it just a tad too long, or do it inappropriately when she's trying to ignore me. She'll usually respond with a slightly exasperated blink back, or a tiny flick of her ear, signaling she knows what I'm up to. It’s a fun, silent game we play. Another favorite is the 'belly rub trap,' but a very gentle, quick version. Most cats are super sensitive about their bellies, so I'll lightly, almost imperceptibly, brush my hand near her tummy when she's relaxed. She'll often stretch out, playfully swat at my hand, or even roll over to expose her belly more fully – challenging me, almost. It’s never a deep rub or restraining her, just a little tease. Then there’s the classic 'feather tease.' Using a wand toy, I'll let the feather just touch her nose or ear, then quickly pull it away right when she's about to pounce. It builds up her hunting instinct and gets her all riled up for a proper play session. She gets so focused, and when I finally let her 'catch' it, she's so proud! It’s less about annoying and more about building anticipation for play. I also love the 'obstacle course' game. If she's lounging in a doorway, instead of stepping over her, I'll deliberately walk around her, making her shift slightly. Or I'll pretend to accidentally block her path to her food bowl for a second. She gives me the most dramatic sigh, but it's clear she's just playing along. It's our way of saying, 'Hey, I see you, and I’m going to playfully interrupt your royalness for a sec!' It's super important to know your cat's limits! What one cat finds amusing, another might genuinely dislike. Always pay attention to their body language. A twitching tail, flattened ears, or a low growl are clear signs they're actually annoyed and it's time to stop. We're aiming for playful exasperation, not stress! For my cat, these little 'annoyances' are just another way we interact. It shows them I'm engaged, I'm playing, and ultimately, it strengthens our bond. She might give me a grumpy look, but then she'll often rub against my legs or jump into my lap for cuddles later. It's our quirky love language! So, what about your feline friends?
