How I’ve kept my milk supply up!

I’ve been an exclusive pumper for 7 months now and I wanted to share with you some tips on how I’ve been able to do this. These tips might not work for all women, but it doesn’t hurt to share them based on my successful pumping journey💕

✨staying hydrated is crucial to keep your milk supply up as breast milk of composed of a high percentage of water so all this water will need to be stored back to your body

✨pumping for longer periods of time helps emptying out breasts which tells the body that more milk will need to be produced for the next pumping session and it contributes to the overall milk supply

✨having a consistent pumping schedule is important because it mimics baby’s feeding patterns signaling the body that more milk needs to be produced

Breast milk contains a significant amount of water, and thus, drinking plenty of fluids helps keep your milk supply steady. Additionally, incorporating protein into your diet can further support milk production. Long sessions of pumping not only help in fully emptying the breasts but also signal to your body to produce more milk for future sessions. Many exclusive pumpers find success by adopting a pumping routine that mimics a baby's natural feeding schedule. This rhythmic practice can substantially influence milk flow. Power pumping—pumping for shorter intervals within a set timeframe, such as 10-20 minutes on, then 10-20 minutes off for an hour—has been notably effective for many mothers in increasing their output. It’s also important to note that reducing the number of pumping sessions may be necessary over time, but this should be approached cautiously to avoid a sudden drop in supply. Consistent monitoring of your milk production and adjusting your schedule as needed will help maintain a steady supply, ensuring you have sufficient milk stored.
