Why I prefer slow fashion (over fast fashion)
Slow fashion is super important in today’s economy. With all the trends coming and going so fast, it only hurts our environment by overflowing landfills and finding a plethora of trash in our oceans.
Slow fashion may not be the ultimate solution, but it does help make an impact, no matter the size.
Choosing slow fashion has not only been a personal style shift for me but also a commitment to ethical and environmental responsibility. When I switched from fast fashion to slow fashion, one of the most rewarding aspects was supporting small businesses rather than large corporations that often overlook worker welfare and sustainability. Slow fashion garments tend to be crafted more thoughtfully, ensuring ethical sourcing and fair labor practices. This guarantees that what I wear didn’t come at the cost of someone's hardship or environmental degradation. Over time, I’ve noticed the quality and durability of slow fashion pieces far exceed those of fast fashion. With fewer trends dictating my wardrobe, the clothes last longer, reducing waste and preventing excess textiles from flooding landfills. Another reason I prefer slow fashion is its positive impact on the planet. Fast fashion contributes significantly to environmental pollution, with mountains of discarded clothes ending up in our oceans and landfills. Slow fashion encourages mindful consumption and creativity, such as upcycling or even crochet, which is a trend I personally enjoy. These practices minimize waste and foster a deeper appreciation for what we wear. Ultimately, slow fashion is not just about style but about making conscious choices that respect people and the planet. By choosing slower, more sustainable options, each of us plays a role in creating a healthier future. Embracing slow fashion may not be the ultimate solution to the fashion industry's issues, but it’s a meaningful and impactful step worth taking.
