Are The Envelope Saving Challenges Worth It? 🤔

Here are the pros & cons of the viral “Envelope Saving Challenge!”

Pros 👍🏼

Seeing physical envelopes filled with cash can be encouraging and rewarding! It’s a fun way to save.

It provides a clear plan for saving, helping you stay focused on your goals. Good for if you’re a visual person.

CONS 👎🏼

Some people prefer digital saving. They may spend it if it's always near them physically. There’s also the aspect of the money getting misplaced.

It’s also not planned or structured - it’s random. So one day you may have to put in more than you’re able to, and it’ll mess up the whole count.

... Read moreThe Envelope Saving Challenge has gained popularity as a visual and engaging method for saving money. This method involves labeling 100 envelopes with numbers 1 through 100. Each day, participants select an envelope and save the amount corresponding to the number of the envelope. By the end of the challenge, you can potentially save $5,050, which can be a substantial boost to your savings. One of the main advantages of this challenge is the gratification that comes from physically seeing the envelopes become filled. This tangible representation of saving can be more satisfying than viewing digital bank balances, particularly for visual learners. Furthermore, having a structured saving plan can help keep individuals accountable and focused on their financial goals. However, there are notable downsides to consider. This method may not suit everyone, especially those who prefer digital savings methods, as the physical cash can lead to impulsive spending or misplacement. Additionally, the randomness of the envelope selection can make budgeting difficult, potentially leading to unforeseen financial strains on certain days. Ultimately, whether the Envelope Saving Challenge is right for you depends on your personal financial habits and preferences. Consider experimenting with the challenge to see if it aligns with your saving style, but always keep in mind your broader financial objectives.

I agree that it gives more satisfaction seeing the physical money as a reward

i feel like this can be both pro & con based on people’s preference. like for example i tend to spend money on my card more than if i had cash. I think this is a good way to invest your money but some things like this could be like $20-$30 and i would say to just put your money in an envelope
