i haven’t seen a single girl scout outside this year !!??
This year, I couldn’t help but notice that I haven’t seen a single Girl Scout selling cookies in my neighborhood or at local spots. It felt strange because traditionally around this time, Girl Scouts with their iconic cookie boxes are everywhere, especially those coveted Samoas. When I saw no signs of them, I figured I had to take matters into my own hands! From what I’ve gathered, many troops have shifted their cookie sales online or postponed their usual selling spots due to recent challenges like safety concerns and changes in community regulations. While these methods keep the tradition alive, they lack the personal interaction and the nostalgic feeling of buying cookies directly from the scouts. As someone who fondly remembers buying cookies while chatting with the girls, I decided to channel that energy at home. I started making my own versions of Samoas, attempting to replicate that amazing combination of caramel, toasted coconut, and dark chocolate drizzle. It’s been a fun and rewarding project that connects me to the tradition in a new way. Plus, it gives me a fresh appreciation for the hard work those Girl Scouts put into their sales. For other fans missing their local scouts, I recommend checking the official Girl Scouts website or social media channels for virtual sales events. Supporting online sales still benefits the troops directly. Also, engaging in baking homemade cookies can be a creative substitute while keeping the spirit alive. In reflection, missing the usual Girl Scout presence encourages us to find unique ways to celebrate the culture around these little moments. Whether it’s baking, donating, or purchasing through new platforms, the joy of supporting young entrepreneurs and savoring Samoas remains. Hopefully, next season will bring the scouts back to the spots we all remember with smiles!
