LOOK INTO THEIR EYES… AND THEN IMAGINE BEING THE ONE WHO HAS TO WALK AWAY…
That’s the reality today. Desiree and I are heading into our local auction, where over seventy horses will run through. Each one with eyes searching for someone—anyone—to see them.
This is our chance to intercept them NOW. Not next week in Bowie, when they’ve already endured a 17–20 hour trailer ride across the country. Not after they’ve been crammed into pens and bought by the kill buyers who will load them for Mexico.
Today is the moment we can stop that pipeline in its tracks. Today is where we can step in, right here in our own backyard, and make sure they leave with a future instead of a slaughter tag.
Every horse deserves a chance. We can’t save them all, but together, we can save the ones standing in front of us today.

The heartbreaking reality of horse auctions is something many people don't witness firsthand. When you look into the eyes of these mustangs, you see a silent plea for help—their last chance because "they look at you like you're there." From personal experience volunteering at such auctions, the emotional weight is overwhelming but also inspiring. Each horse stands vulnerable, knowing that their fate hinges on whether someone steps up in time. One poignant moment I recall was when a weary mare, surrounded by many others destined for uncertain futures, seemed to connect with me through her gaze. It's not just about saving animals; it's about intercepting cruelty at its source by understanding the logistics behind these auctions. Horses often endure long 17–20 hour trailer rides and cramped conditions before reaching buyers who might send them to slaughter, tragically across borders like Mexico. By acting locally and swiftly, we can disrupt this pipeline significantly. Every rescue is a story of hope and transformation, but the process requires community support through donations and awareness. Sharing their stories—"last chance.. because we are"—raises crucial awareness and motivates more people to participate in these life-saving efforts. If you ever consider getting involved, start by attending local auctions, volunteering with rescue organizations, or spreading the word on social platforms. Even small donations contribute directly to providing proper care, transportation, and rehabilitation for these horses. Together, we can change their narrative from despair to a hopeful future filled with love and safety.
