24 books I want to read in 2024 (part 2)
The list of books I want to read is wayyyy too long for me to not make some sort of plan and have some reads I know I really want to get to. I feel like I get so many recommendations and I never get around to reading some of them and then I forget that I had them on my list. So my 24 in 2024 list is to hopefully help me combat that and to remember which books I have been saying I want to read for awhile. Do you have a way to organize your reads? I am a true physical list girlie through and through so by using one this year I think I will hopefully be able to get through more of the books that have been on my list for a long time. Here are eight of the 24 on my list:
Storied life of AJ Fikry
The Night Circus
A Warriors Fate
The Stardust Thief
The Dazzling Heights
A Fire Endless
What the River Knows
A Gathering of Shadows

Does anyone else feel like their "To Be Read" (TBR) pile is less of a list and more of a living, breathing monster that just keeps growing? If you've ever related to the 'read another book' meme, where you're surrounded by books, yet constantly adding more, then you're definitely not alone! My own 2024 reading list is my attempt to finally get a handle on this beautiful chaos. It's so easy for our TBRs to balloon, isn't it? One minute you're browsing online, the next you've added three more books because the 'premise sounds so good.' Or maybe a 'friend recommendation' comes along, and suddenly that book is a priority. I know exactly what it's like when a book has been on your 'must-read' list 'for too long,' or when you realize there's 'another sequel' out for a series you love, and you just have to read it. Before you know it, what started as a manageable goal becomes a daunting mountain of pages. That's why I've found creating a focused list, like my '24 in 2024' challenge, so incredibly helpful. For me, being a 'physical list girlie' means that seeing my goals written down makes them feel real and achievable. It’s not just about picking books; it’s about intentionally curating a selection that excites me and helps me remember all those fantastic titles I've heard about. So, how can we truly tackle these ever-growing lists without feeling overwhelmed? Here are a few strategies I've found that make the reading journey more enjoyable: Embrace Mood Reading, with a Twist: While a structured list is great, sometimes you just aren't in the mood for a fantasy epic. Instead of forcing it, keep a couple of 'mood reads' in mind from your list. This way, you're still progressing through your TBR, but in a way that feels natural. Prioritize Smartly: I try to balance new releases with those books that have been lurking on my list 'for too long.' Maybe pick one new release and one older TBR gem each month. This keeps things fresh while also chipping away at those long-standing commitments. Track Your Progress: Whether it’s a simple notebook, a spreadsheet, or an app like Goodreads, tracking what you've read and what's next can be incredibly motivating. Seeing those completed books pile up is a fantastic feeling! Don't Be Afraid to DNF (Did Not Finish): This is a tough one for many readers, but giving yourself permission to put down a book you're not enjoying can be liberating. Life is too short to read books you dislike, especially when your TBR is overflowing with potential new favorites. It's better to move on to something that truly captivates you. Join a Community: Engaging with fellow readers, whether through a local book club or online communities like #lemon8bookclub or #readersoflemon8, can add so much to your reading experience. Sharing your thoughts and getting new 'recommendations' keeps the passion alive and provides accountability. Ultimately, the goal isn't just to finish a list, but to enjoy the journey of discovery that reading offers. Our TBR piles are a testament to our curiosity and love for stories. So, let's keep adding those books, keep sharing our 'sequel' theories, and most importantly, keep reading – one fantastic book at a time!
