My top 5 paraprofessional needs👏🏼

Here are some of top needs as a paraprofessional.

1. Breakaway lanyards- if you know you know

2. Pens- I always keep one in my hair because you never know when one will be needed! I personally love the sharpie brand

3. Your favorite cup- for water, coffee, pop whatever it is! Just make sure it’s room appropriate. Cover those straws if needed!

4. Hair clips- honestly I find these easier to release out of my hair if needed for some special cases

5. Highlighters- kiddos love the colors and part of our VB program consist of us highlighting when they master a target. One is always on my lanyard!

Comment what you love/need as a para! I’d love to hear from you! #paraprofessional

Breakaway lanyards are crucial not only for holding ID badges securely but also for safety, as they easily release if caught on something, preventing potential injury. Pens are an absolute essential. The Sharpie brand is favored for their no-bleed, medium-point 0.7mm ink that writes smoothly without smudging. Keeping a pen handy—sometimes tucked in hair for quick access—is practical because you'll often find yourself needing to jot down notes or mark progress spontaneously. Hydration is key, so selecting your favorite cup designed for your typical beverage, whether water, coffee, or soda, helps keep you refreshed. It’s important to ensure your cup’s use is appropriate for the setting, including managing straws if necessary to maintain classroom rules. Hair clips aren’t just for style; they offer convenience by allowing you to manage your hair quickly, especially during active or special situations where minimal distraction is beneficial. Highlighters play an educational role beyond organization. Many paraprofessionals working with Visual Behavior (VB) programs use colorful highlighters to mark student progress or target mastery, making learning both visible and motivating. Keeping one attached to your lanyard ensures it’s always within reach. These items do not only streamline your workflow but also enhance your interaction with students and team members. Sharing these must-haves within your #paraprofessional community can foster support and improved strategies for day-to-day challenges.
