Starbucks baristas are sounding the alarm about poor staffing & working conditions under new CEO Brian Niccol. The key to improving Starbucks for workers AND customers is finalizing union contracts with better hours to improve staffing, strong protections, and more take-home pay for baristas so we can do our jobs the way they need to be done! #starbucksbarista #starbucks #unionstrong
Hey everyone! As someone on the front lines at Starbucks, I wanted to open up about what 'employee burnout' really means for us baristas and, honestly, for your daily coffee run. It’s not just about feeling tired; it's a deep exhaustion that comes from constantly being understaffed, overworked, and undervalued. I’ve seen days where it feels like we’re running a marathon with no finish line, especially when there’s just one person on the register trying to take orders, make drinks, and keep the line moving. It’s frustrating for us, and I know it's frustrating for you when you have to wait so long for your drinks. We hear your sighs, we see your impatience, and trust me, we feel it too. This isn't a new issue, but under current CEO Brian Niccol, many of us feel like our concerns are falling on deaf ears. There was hope when he promised to finalize contracts with our union. It's 2024 now, and that promise feels hollow because, from our perspective, there's a refusal to seriously discuss staffing and take-home pay. This isn't just about 'more money' – it's about being able to afford to live, to cover basic expenses, and to feel like our demanding work is adequately compensated. When we're not paid enough, or when our hours are cut, it adds another layer of stress to an already high-pressure job. Our union isn't just fighting for us; it's fighting for a better Starbucks experience for everyone. We're asking for better hours to ensure proper staffing. Imagine a store where there are always enough hands on deck – no more long waits, fresher drinks, and baristas who aren't on the verge of collapsing. We also need strong protections in our contracts, things that safeguard us from unfair treatment and ensure a safe, respectful workplace. And yes, more take-home pay is crucial. When baristas aren't constantly worried about making ends meet, we can focus better on our craft and your experience. Many of us truly love making coffee and connecting with customers. We want to do our jobs the way they need to be done. But it's hard to deliver that 'Starbucks experience' when we're running on fumes in short-staffed stores. We believe that if Brian Niccol takes our proposals for fixing these issues seriously, he could truly get customers back to Starbucks and turn the company around. We're not just complaining; we're offering solutions. Please hear us when we say that listening to baristas about the issues in our short-staffed stores and taking our proposals seriously is the path forward. Otherwise, we fear the company will fail to live up to its potential, and both workers and customers will continue to suffer. It’s about respect, fair treatment, and ensuring Starbucks remains a place where both employees and customers can thrive. Let's hope for a positive change soon!
