Art highlights: October
Hey everyone! I've been seeing a lot of questions about where some of the characters in my October art pieces are from, especially 'what game is he from?' It's super fun to hear you guys are curious about their origins! I love getting that feedback, it means some of my original designs are hitting that sweet spot where they feel like they could be part of a cool game or show. Let's clear up a big one right away: yes, that anime-style character charging an energy ball is indeed Goku! As a huge fan, I couldn't resist sketching him in a dynamic fighting stance. While Dragon Ball Z isn't a 'game' in the traditional sense, Goku has been featured in countless video games, from fighting games like Dragon Ball FighterZ to RPGs, so it makes perfect sense why you'd ask if he's from a game! It was a blast trying to capture his iconic energy. For many of the other monstrous and creature designs, the inspiration often comes from a mix of my imagination and specific prompts from challenges like Drawtober and Goretober. For instance, that formidable red, muscular, humanoid creature with blade-tipped limbs and sharp teeth? That was a deep dive into creating something truly intimidating from scratch, imagining it as a boss monster in a dark fantasy RPG. Or the skeletal figure in the wide-brimmed hat and tattered cloak? That one definitely leaned into the spooky drawing vibe of October, trying to evoke a mysterious, almost spectral presence you might encounter in a haunted game level. The 'Goretober' prompts specifically pushed me to create some really unique and macabre illustrations. The piece with 'BLOOD,' 'BANG,' and 'ROT' was a creative exercise in visualizing grotesque yet impactful scenes, much like the darker aesthetics you find in survival horror or indie horror games. Making those melting, pink, skull-like figures, one holding a knife, for another prompt was also about exploring visual storytelling, even if it's just a single image. It's fascinating how a simple word can spark an entire visual narrative! Then there are the pieces born from personal connections, like the small, curled-up, dragon-like creature, which was a request from a friend. They had a specific idea in mind, and it's always fun to bring someone else's vision to life in my own style. Or my personal favorite, that detailed drawing of a monstrous, muscular figure with sharp teeth and fiery, swirling elements – that one was just pure creative flow, imagining a powerful entity from a fantasy realm. And the stylized character with large eyes, pointed ears, and sharp teeth was a gift for another friend, capturing a bit of their playful yet edgy aesthetic. The beauty of these art challenges is that they push you to explore different themes and characters, whether they're established icons like Goku, completely original creations, or interpretations of prompts. It’s a wonderful way to build a portfolio of diverse designs. So, while not all of them are directly 'from' a game, many are crafted with that kind of immersive world-building in mind.
