Book: How I’ll Kill You
I am horrible about posting on here sometimes. I have read five books this February and I haven’t posted about one of them. Anyway, I started reading this one in between the Shatter Me series (as I like to break apart after a few books to read some sort of stand alone.) and this was definitely a five star read for me. Ren DeStefano delivered. So many twists and turns. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something happens that makes you surprised.
The book is about three young adult triplets Moody, Iris and Sissy who travel around killing their boyfriends. They want to hurt them first before they ever have a chance of hurting the sisters. Their childhood traumas, this was certainly something to keep them bonded together. Something they were in control of. Anyway, Sissy has never murdered anyone before and this time, she is ready. She’s usually the fixer of the three. Always cleaning up her sister’s messes so they can get away with their crimes. But things change when Sissy meets a church boy Edison in a small town where nothing bad ever happens there. Until the girls show up.

The bond between these triplets is fierce and unbreakable, forged in fire, and that’s what makes their dynamic so compelling. The story truly kicks into high gear when Sissy, the 'fixer' of the group who usually cleans up her sisters' messes, decides she's ready to take a more active role. And then – plot twist! – she meets Edison, a seemingly wholesome church boy in a quiet, unsuspecting town. This introduces such a fantastic moral dilemma and raises the stakes exponentially. Can Sissy maintain her sisters' dark pact while falling for someone who represents everything they stand against? The tension is palpable, and I found myself holding my breath through so many scenes. Ren DeStefano crafts characters that feel incredibly real, even in their extreme circumstances. You get deep into Sissy's head, experiencing her internal conflict, her loyalty to her sisters versus her burgeoning feelings for Edison. It's not just a thriller; it's a deep dive into sisterhood, trauma, and the blurred lines between justice and revenge. The author does an incredible job of building suspense, not just through shocking events, but through the slow unraveling of secrets and the psychological toll of their actions. The book cover itself, which I saw on my Kindle, perfectly captures the vibe: a hand opening a chocolate box filled with skull-shaped candies – it's a subtle nod to the dark sweetness and dangerous intentions within. It’s such a clever design that hints at the story's themes without giving anything away. For anyone who loved 'A Lie for a Lie' or other intense psychological thrillers, you absolutely must pick up 'How I'll Kill You.' It's a standalone gem that delivers on every promise of suspense and intrigue. Trust me, you won't regret diving into this one!
