I completed my 1999 Pokemon Base Set

I recently completed my Pokemon 1999 Base Set and it’s my first ever set completed so I gotta show people. Most of them I got in packs or traded with people back in the day.

Charizard though I bought for $95 with my own money that I got for my birthday and mowing lawns. I was with my mom when I got it and when my dad found out what I paid for it he was not thrilled. We all get a good laugh out of it now and me and my mom like to point out that it really wasn’t a bad purchase since I kept it in good shape.

- Alakazam 1/102

- Blastoise 2/102

- Chansey 3/102

One of the highlights was owning the Charizard card, which I purchased for $95 using my birthday and lawn mowing money. Despite my dad’s initial reaction, my mom and I have fond memories reminiscing about that special moment. Keeping the cards in good condition was a priority for me, and it has definitely paid off in preserving their value and appearance. Among the set, Alakazam, Blastoise, and Chansey stood out not only for their design but also for their unique Pokémon Powers and abilities. For example, Alakazam’s Damage Swap power allows strategic movement of damage counters during gameplay, making it a powerful Psychic-type card. Blastoise’s Rain Dance power lets you attach multiple Energy cards in a turn, adding flexibility and strength to your deck. Chansey, with its high HP and healing abilities like Scrunch, was known for being a resilient card that could keep your Pokémon in the game longer. Trading and opening packs were my main methods of collecting these cards, which added excitement and unpredictability to the process. It was thrilling to find rare cards in booster packs or make trades with friends to fill the gaps in my collection. If you’re considering starting or completing a Base Set collection, I recommend focusing on card condition and authenticity, as these greatly impact the cards’ value. Storing cards in protective sleeves and keeping them away from moisture and sunlight has helped keep mine in near-mint condition. Lastly, the 1999 Base Set isn’t just a collection of cards; it’s a rich piece of Pokémon history that represents the beginning of a worldwide phenomenon. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to the hobby, completing this set offers a sense of accomplishment and a connection to the nostalgic era of Pokémon’s rise. I look forward to continuing my collection journey and sharing more stories and tips with fellow enthusiasts.
