It’s Pikachu Day!!!

It’s Pikachu Day! Pikachu doesn’t have an official birthday but his Pokédex number is 0025 so just makes sense to make 2/5 his day and no one deserves his own day more then him. If you wanna say it’s his birthday he’d be 30 years old today.

These are my two Pikachu cards with the first one being from the 1999 Base Set and the second one from the 1999 Jungle Set.

Have a great day Pikachu!!!

Pikachu Day on February 5th is a perfect occasion to revisit the nostalgic feeling these cards bring, especially the ones from the 1999 Base Set and Jungle Set. The Base Set Pikachu showcases the classic move Thunder Jolt, where you flip a coin to determine if Pikachu does damage to itself — a unique gameplay mechanic that adds excitement and risk. What I appreciate about the 1999 Jungle Set Pikachu is its attack Spark, which allows damage to benched Pokémon without affecting weaknesses or resistances, introducing strategic depth. Both cards highlight Pikachu’s signature traits: its height of 1'4", weight of 13 lbs, and the ability of their electric gatherings to create lightning storms, which is both a fun lore detail and a nod to Pikachu’s in-game abilities. If you consider February 5 as Pikachu’s unofficial birthday, then Pikachu would be celebrating 30 years of bringing joy to fans worldwide. Owning these cards isn’t just about gameplay but also about capturing a moment in Pokémon history when the franchise was just beginning to electrify the world. Whether you're a seasoned collector or a newcomer, celebrating Pikachu Day with these cards reminds us why Pikachu is more than just a mascot — it's a beloved symbol of childhood and the enduring magic of Pokémon.
