Y'all. What? 😭

I just finished book 7 (!!!) of Dungeon Crawler Carl and I have a LOT of feelings.

First, I love how the series is slowly shifting from an RPG with a narrow world (the dungeon) to a full blown sci-fi with the last few books building the universal "world" and expanding the scope of the story. LOTS of fascinating tidbits in this one to promote that bigger picture understanding but we still have so many questions at the end!!!!

Second, my heart is broken. I can't tell you the details of course, that would require spoilers and I'm not doing that to you. Big, big feels between some of the main characters in this one.

Third, please don't come for me after I say this... I can tell this book was written on a time crunch. The language is more repetitive ("toward" is a hard habit to break, as a writer I totally get that!). It felt like some of that post editing was missing and it was less polished. This doesn't make me like the book any less though! The plot and characters don't suffer from this, just noticed the technical shift.

Fourth: I AM SO HAPPY I HAVE THE ARC FOR BOOK 8 WAITING ON MY NETGALLEY SHELF!!!

I hope you all enjoy this one as much as I did! More to come when I get through number 8.

Having just finished Book 7 of Dungeon Crawler Carl myself, I can totally relate to the mix of emotions it brings out. The transition from a tightly focused dungeon RPG world to a sprawling sci-fi universe is an exciting shift that breathes new life into the series. You start to see hints of a much larger cosmos, which really opens up the storyline and piques curiosity about what lies beyond. One thing that stood out to me was how the author handles character development amid this broadening scope. Even as new cosmic elements are introduced, the emotional core—especially the complex relationships between main characters—remains deeply engaging. It’s tough not to get invested in their struggles and heartbreaks, even without spoilers. I also noticed the writing style felt a little different in this latest installment, likely due to time constraints during the book’s rush to publication. There are moments when repetitive wording, such as overusing the word "toward," interrupts the flow. However, this doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment. The plot remains gripping, and the characters’ journeys still shine brightly. For anyone following this series, the anticipation for Book 8 is palpable. Having access to the ARC on NetGalley certainly adds to the excitement—I’m counting down the days until I can dive into the next chapter. In sum, Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 7 masterfully balances expanding its universe with deep emotional storytelling. It’s a testament to how genre fiction can evolve while maintaining a strong connection with its audience. If you’re a fan of sci-fi mixed with heartfelt character drama, this book is definitely worth your time.
