Save us all. Deodorant isn’t optional.
I went to Katy Perry’s show yesterday, hyped to sing along to “Firework” until the girl in front of me turned it into a nightmare. Her BO hit me like a truck with sour, overwhelming, straight from her armpits. And she kept her arms up the entire time, so every lyric, every beat, I got a faceful of that stench. I couldn’t enjoy a single song. I have to be holding my breath and it was burning in my nose. My friends and I debated telling her to lower her arms, but guilt stopped us. Why do people skip deodorant especially in crowded places?
Body odor (BO) is a common concern, especially in crowded environments like concerts, public transport, or festivals where personal space is limited and heat and sweating increase. Not wearing deodorant can lead to unpleasant experiences for both the individual and those nearby, as illustrated by the incident at Katy Perry’s show where the scent became overwhelming. Deodorants and antiperspirants serve crucial roles in controlling sweat and neutralizing odor-causing bacteria. Antiperspirants block sweat glands, reducing moisture, while deodorants mask or eliminate the smell. Selecting the right product based on your skin type and activity levels is key. Many people skip deodorant for various reasons, including skin sensitivities, misconceptions about natural body odor, or simply underestimating its social impact. However, in tightly packed venues, strong body odors can become highly noticeable and uncomfortable for others. This can detract from the enjoyment of events and lead to social discomfort or embarrassment. To prevent such situations, it is recommended to maintain good hygiene routines: shower regularly, use effective deodorants or antiperspirants, wear breathable fabrics, and carry travel-size deodorants for refreshing during long outings. Also, raising awareness about the social importance of wearing deodorant can encourage considerate behavior in crowded settings. The PSA message highlighted — "Let this be a PSA: Wear deodorant. Please." — emphasizes the simple social courtesy of personal care. Wearing deodorant is not optional when sharing space closely with others; it enhances comfort, confidence, and respect for those around you. Adopting this small habit can save everyone from uncomfortable encounters and foster a more pleasant communal environment.

I’m hoping the girl at the bottom is your friend and not the girl. If it is that’s really tacky 🤷🏽♀️
