Should I feel guilty for “rejecting” him?

My husband started snoring out of nowhere two weeks ago. It’s not super loud, but it jolts me awake, and once I’m up, I can’t fall back asleep. I didn’t wanna kick him out of our bedroom, so I just crashed in the guest room the first night.

He woke up later to grab water or something, saw I wasn’t in our bed, and climbed into the guest room with me, then started snoring again. I told him about the snoring, and he just didn't care. He finally booked a doctor’s appointment a few days back, but until then, I’m still sleeping in the guest room.

Now I’m locking the door cause he keeps sneaking in, even though I’ve explained a million times I need sleep. He says I’m overreacting and making him feel rejected. But I’m exhausted, am I really in the wrong here?

... Read moreIt’s tough when sleep becomes a battleground, right? I never thought I’d be in this situation, tucked away in the guest room, trying to snatch some sleep. There I was, in my favorite white pajamas with those cute cartoon bear and cloud patterns, just wanting peace and quiet. But then he'd find me. It felt like he was 'reading' my PJs, not just seeing them, almost as if my comfortable sleepwear was a sign of my retreat, or worse, my rejection of him. It wasn't about the pajamas; it was about the desperate need for uninterrupted sleep. It’s hard to explain that when you’re utterly exhausted. This whole ordeal has made me realize how much our sleep environment impacts our relationship. When I first moved to the guest room, it was a temporary escape. I thought, 'Okay, I'll just get some rest and figure this out.' But then the guilt crept in. Is it truly rejecting him to seek a silent space? We've always shared our bed; it's our sanctuary. Now, the image of me, locking my husband out of the main bedroom, even if it's just to get a few hours in the guest room, feels heavy. For me, those pajamas symbolize comfort and a personal boundary I desperately needed. When he'd come in, finding me there, it was like an invasion of my last resort for peace. It makes you wonder, do our partners truly understand the silent messages we send, even through our choice of sleepwear when we're sleep-deprived? It’s not about being less intimate; it's about a fundamental human need for rest. The struggle is real when your body is screaming for sleep, but your heart worries about hurting your partner’s feelings. We've started talking more about why I need this space. It’s not about pushing him away, but about preserving my sanity and, ironically, our relationship. If I'm a zombie from lack of sleep, I'm not a good partner, mom, or even myself. We're exploring solutions for his snoring – he finally has that doctor’s appointment! Sometimes, it's about nasal strips, changing sleep positions, or even a sleep study to rule out conditions like sleep apnea. But in the meantime, maintaining separate sleeping spaces has been crucial for my well-being. If you're going through something similar, remember that prioritizing your sleep isn't selfish. It's self-preservation. Many couples swear by separate bedrooms (or even just guest rooms) for better sleep and report having a stronger relationship because of it. It’s about finding a balance. We're trying to find ways to maintain intimacy and connection during the day, even if our nights are spent apart. Think about shared morning coffees, evening cuddles before sleep, or even special 'date nights' in the main bedroom when snoring isn't an issue. It’s a journey of communication, empathy, and compromise, ensuring both partners feel valued and rested. And yes, sometimes, those comfy PJs are just about getting some sleep, no deeper meaning 'read into' them!
