Peacemaking is a timeless principle deeply embedded in many faiths, including the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. From personal experience, embracing forgiveness and choosing to uplift those around us can transform not only our relationships but also our inner peace. Elder Gary E. Stevenson highlights that true peacemaking starts within the individual’s heart and then radiates to the home and community. In everyday life, practicing forgiveness is sometimes challenging but immensely rewarding. I have found that when we consciously decide to forgive, it releases burdens and fosters empathy. This mindset shift encourages building others up rather than tearing them down, promoting a harmonious environment. Within families, establishing a peacemaking culture strengthens bonds and sets a foundation for future generations to practice kindness and understanding. Additionally, the Church underscores that peacemaking is proactive, not passive. It requires deliberate effort to avoid conflict escalation and to seek understanding. The principles taught by Elder Stevenson resonate well in our modern world, where conflict often arises from misunderstandings and hurt feelings. By embodying these teachings, individuals can contribute to peace on a broader scale. I encourage readers to reflect on moments when peacemaking has made a difference in their own lives.
