foodie diaries: 4️⃣ kaohsiung

everything I ate during my 3d2n in kaohsiung!

✧ 𝙍𝙪𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙣𝙜 𝙉𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩 – overall, the food was cheaper than in taipei and tasted just as good! (the beef cubes were 🤤)

✧ 𝙈𝙘𝘿𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙙'𝙨 – the Strawberry White Chocolate Pie tasted a little artificial, but it's still something unique to try

✧ 𝙍𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣 @ 𝙀 𝙎𝙆𝙔 𝙈𝘼𝙇𝙇 – loved it! flavourful and affordably priced

✧ 𝘽𝙪𝙗𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙏𝙚𝙖 – enjoyed every cup except HuaDa's 🫠

✧ 𝙅𝙞𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙣 – would've been even better if it had been served piping hot and freshly fried

Kaohsiung City

... Read moreKaohsiung offers a vibrant and diverse food scene that travelers can easily explore within a short trip. From my personal experience over a 3-day stay, one of the standout places was Ruifeng Night Market. The market is not only budget-friendly compared to Taipei but also rich in variety. I particularly enjoyed the beef cubes, which were juicy and flavorful, a great example of Taiwanese street food at its best. Aside from night markets, Kaohsiung’s modern shopping malls such as E Sky Mall provide delicious, affordable dining options. The miso and spicy chashu ramen I had there were warming and satisfying, perfect after a day of sightseeing. For bubble tea lovers, the city offers many choices, including BOBO TE and NAP TEA, each with its unique take on classic milk tea and brown sugar milk tea. Although I wasn’t a fan of the HuaDa’s version, it was interesting to compare different local brands. For those curious about international fast food twists, trying McDonald's limited Strawberry White Chocolate Pie is worthwhile. While it tasted a bit artificial, it’s a fun local exclusive item that adds to the culinary adventure. Lastly, Jiguang Fried Chicken was tasty but could be improved by serving it piping hot, which I believe would highlight its crispiness better. These little personal observations add to the unique charm of food hunting in Kaohsiung. Overall, Kaohsiung’s food scene combines tradition and innovation, from night markets to malls, offering something memorable for every palate. When visiting, I recommend allocating time for both street food sampling and mall dining experiences to fully appreciate what Kaohsiung has to offer. Packing comfortable shoes and an appetite is essential for this delicious urban journey.
