matcha profile: sweeter side, less earthy, light & refreshing ✨

🍓 Matcha Rating Guide:

10/10 → will re-buy

8–9 → worth revisiting

6–7 → only if i’m in the area

≤5 → not for me :(

📍𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙨

nearest station: Yishun Mrt (many outlets)

comments: for $11.30, it’s a very expensive cup... but I’ll give it credit for being a pretty big serving and the fact that you can earn points from it 👀 it’s sweet from the strawberry, but you can still taste the matcha flavour (lost track of how many times I've ordered)

📍𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙣 & 𝙏𝙚𝙖 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙛

nearest station: Ang Mo Kio Mrt (many outlets)

comments: quite a sweet cup, but I loved every sip of it! the matcha itself is also pretty sweet compared to Starbucks’

📍𝙄 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙏𝙖𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙞

nearest station: Bugis Mrt (many outlets)

comments: i loved how you can taste the matcha infused with carrot-like flavour notes, and it pairs really well with the berries too

📍𝙏𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙖𝙝𝙧𝙪 𝘽𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙮

nearest station: Dhoby Ghuat Mrt (few outlets)

comments: another expensive cup of matcha, but you can really taste how authentic the matcha is, and the cherry tasted fresh! personally, I think the pistachio one was better (but too small of a cup for its price)

📍𝙂𝙤𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙖

nearest station: Woodleigh Mrt

comments: i tried it twice — once at their shop and once at their pop-up... my first experience was slightly bitter, but the second time wasn’t too bad! but, it was slightly pricey

📍𝙍&𝘽 𝙏𝙚𝙖

nearest station: Jurong East Mrt (few outlets)

comments: a weaker matcha flavour overall, with the drink tasting more milk-heavy around 70% milk?

📍𝙇𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚

nearest station: Woodlands Mrt (many outlets)

comments: mild matcha taste with hints of strawberry ~ their coffee still wins, but it’s affordable with coupons

📍𝘽𝙚𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙖

nearest station: Yishun Mrt (many outlets)

comments: slightly bitter, and the strawberry flavour didn’t really help balance it out... not the best cup, but not the worst either

📍𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝘼𝙘𝙖𝙞

nearest station: Canberra Mrt (few outlets)

comments: this was a super bitter and expensive cup... i could barely taste any strawberry (i couldn't finish this)

more upcoming!! 🍵

... Read moreAs a passionate matcha enthusiast exploring various matcha drinks around Singapore, I've found that the sweetness and earthiness levels can vary widely among popular chains and local cafes. For example, Starbucks’ Strawberry Matcha Frappuccino is known for its generous serving and blend of sweet strawberry with underlying matcha flavors, though it comes at a premium price point. On the other hand, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf offers a notably sweeter version, which I personally enjoyed for its balance and richness. Interestingly, I Love Taimei’s matcha brings unique carrot-like flavor notes paired with berries, creating an exciting twist different from traditional matcha lattes. This experience reminded me how innovative matcha beverages can be when combined with fresh, complementary ingredients. Tiong Bahru Bakery impressed me with its authentic matcha taste enhanced by fresh cherry notes, though the portion size felt small relative to the price. Gotcha Matcha’s drinks had mixed impressions—initial bitterness in one visit contrasted with a more balanced flavor during their pop-up experience. This highlights how preparation and freshness can impact the overall drink quality. For those seeking affordable options, Luckin Coffee provides a milder matcha with subtle strawberry hints, making it a decent choice for casual matcha drinkers without breaking the bank. Conversely, Beutea and The Summer Acai served lingering bitterness that overshadowed the strawberry flavors, making them less enjoyable in my humble opinion. From my personal adventures tasting matcha around Singapore, I'd recommend trying a few different spots to discover which matcha profile suits your palate best—whether you prefer the sweeter, refreshing style or a more traditional, earthy tone. Also, consider the location convenience based on MRT stations like Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, or Woodlands when planning your matcha tasting journey. Ultimately, matcha lovers in Singapore have a vibrant scene to explore, and experimenting with various matcha blends is part of the delight. Keep an eye out for upcoming matcha spots and limited edition flavors to continue enjoying this delightful green tea trend!
