Quilt As You Go - Swipe—>

This is one of my early quilt as you go projects. I used the Moda Blockheads 5 block of the week

for my stars. It’s also one of the first straight line quilting projects I’d done. It was a fun

project and I really enjoyed making it.

The sashings on this QAYG are about 2” wide and have

batting inside of them & I used quilting to hold them in place. I’m still not always “thinking” when

I make the borders. I seem to forget I need the back of the borders too. I would have liked to have

the back of the borders in the same fabric as the back of the quilt. In some of the quilts I’ve made after this

I’ve kept the back all the same fabric, I like both.

... Read moreQuilt As You Go (QAYG) techniques offer a unique approach for creators eager to delve into quilting. This method allows for piecing together quilt blocks without the need for complete sandwiching at the beginning of the project. Instead, individual blocks are quilted first, which can simplify the quilting process and provide more control over the fabric choice and quilting style. Incorporating various patterns into your quilt can enhance its visual appeal. For instance, exploring the incorporation of star quilts in QAYG projects can lead to delightful designs. The Moda Blockheads is an example of a great resource for patterns that help quilters create beautiful stars within their quilts. Techniques such as straight line quilting and echo quilting can further elevate the intricacy of your project, adding dimension and texture. When starting with QAYG, maintaining consistency in fabric choice is essential. Many quilters prefer using the same fabric for the backing to create a cohesive look. However, experimenting with varying fabrics on the back can also yield unique results. Each project offers a learning opportunity; evolving one’s method gradually leads to more polished outcomes. Remember, the most rewarding aspect of quilting is the learning journey and the joy of creating something uniquely yours.
