What If You’re Focusing On The Wrong Things?

It’s easy to let our minds become consumed by what’s happening right in front of us.

The next deadline.

The unanswered text.

The bills.

The uncertainty.

The endless stream of news and distractions competing for our attention.

Before long, our peace begins to disappear.

But this verse gently reminds us to lift our eyes higher.

“Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth.”

This doesn’t mean ignoring reality.

It means remembering that earthly circumstances don’t have the final word.

When our focus stays fixed only on what is temporary, anxiety grows.

But when we intentionally turn our thoughts toward God—His promises, His goodness, His faithfulness—something begins to change.

Peace returns.

Perspective returns.

Hope returns.

The challenges may still be there, but they no longer sit on the throne of your heart.

Today, take a moment to pause.

Look away from the noise.

Look beyond the worries that demand your attention.

Lift your eyes toward the One who is eternal, unchanging, and fully in control.

The things of this world will come and go.

But God’s presence, His love, and His promises remain forever. 🤍

... Read moreIn my own journey, I've noticed how easily life’s daily pressures like deadlines, unanswered texts, and financial worries can cloud my mind and steal my peace. It wasn’t until I consciously started applying the principle from Colossians 3:2—"Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth"—that I began to experience a real shift in my perspective. This doesn’t mean denying problems or pretending everything is fine; rather, it’s about choosing where to fix my attention. When I focus only on temporary challenges, anxiety increases, but when I remind myself of God's eternal faithfulness and promises, I find calm amidst the storm. One practical way I do this is by starting my day with a moment of reflection, reading a verse or two, and intentionally lifting my thoughts beyond present troubles. It helps me realize that while difficulties persist, they don’t rule my heart or define my day. Additionally, I use reminders—like notes on my mirror or phone alerts—with encouraging Bible verses. These small nudges help me pause when stress starts creeping back in. From personal experience, this mental realignment fosters peace, renews hope, and restores a balanced perspective that helps me handle challenges without being overwhelmed. If you’re feeling caught up in worry, try lifting your eyes and thoughts toward that which is unchanging and greater than any earthly concern—you might just find the peace you’ve been longing for.

What does scripture say about focusing?✨
In a world full of distractions, God invites us to fix our eyes on Him. 🤍 When we focus on His presence instead of our problems, we find peace instead of anxiety, purpose instead of confusion, and hope instead of fear. ✨ “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2
