... Read moreParenting often feels like navigating an ever-changing rulebook, filled with expectations both real and imagined. One thing I’ve learned as a mom is that we sometimes invent rules that don’t really serve us or our children—like the funny idea of telling a one-year-old they must score a goal before going to bed. It makes bedtime feel like a challenge rather than a calming routine. From my experience, loosening these made-up rules can relieve a lot of pressure. When you stop trying to control every moment or outcome, you make space for a more genuine connection with your child and a more relaxed atmosphere at home. It’s okay if bedtime gets a little unstructured or if the schedule isn’t perfect every single night. I’ve found that focusing on love, comfort, and consistency—rather than rigid checklists—helps my toddler feel secure and understood. Sometimes that means adapting to how they’re feeling that day, rather than sticking to an ideal plan. Parenting tips that emphasize flexibility and self-compassion are incredibly empowering, especially for young and Gen Z moms like me. Remember, you don’t have to be perfect, and the rules aren’t set in stone. If a made-up rule isn’t working or feels stressful, it’s perfectly fine to rethink or drop it. Parenting is an ongoing learning process filled with trial, error, and lots of love. So don’t be too hard on yourself—sometimes, the best approach is to keep making it up as you go, with kindness and patience for both you and your little one.
