Book Review: Iron Flame

... Read moreOkay, so after my initial quick review, I really wanted to dive deeper into why I landed on a 4/5 star rating for Rebecca Yarros's 'Iron Flame'. It's not a perfect book, but it certainly left a huge impression on me, and I know many of you are wondering if it lives up to the hype! What I Loved (The 4-Star Pushes): The world of Basgiath is just *chef's kiss*. The dragons, their bond, the magic system – it's all so immersive. Yarros truly makes you feel like you're right there with Violet. The thrill of the dragon battles and the intricacies of their relationships were a major highlight. Violet's journey is incredibly compelling. Her growth from a fragile scribe to a fierce rider is inspiring. And Xaden Riorson... well, he's definitely a standout. The tension and slow-burn romance between them kept me turning pages late into the night. Their dynamic is addictive! This book rarely slows down. The trials, the battles, the political intrigue – there's always something happening. It's a true page-turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Where It Could Improve (The Missing Star): As I mentioned briefly, some of the dialogue felt a little... clunky or repetitive at times. There were moments where I wished for more subtlety or emotional depth in conversations, especially in high-stakes scenes. While the overall narrative is gripping, there were occasional instances where the prose felt a bit rushed or could have benefited from a bit more polish. It didn't detract significantly from my enjoyment, but it was noticeable. A few plot points were somewhat predictable, especially for seasoned fantasy readers. However, the execution was so good that I didn't mind too much. Overall Impression & Why the 4/5: Despite these minor quibbles, my "Iron Flame" rating remains high because the sheer enjoyment, the emotional investment, and the unique world-building overshadowed any imperfections. Rebecca Yarros has created a universe that's easy to get lost in, and the characters are ones you genuinely root for (or love to hate!). I'm utterly invested in Violet's story and the fate of her world. The ending left me desperate for "Onyx Storm." The stakes are higher than ever, and I can't wait to see how the story unfolds. If you're looking for an action-packed, dragon-filled fantasy romance with a strong female lead, then 'Iron Flame' is definitely one to add to your TBR pile. It's a wild ride that's absolutely worth experiencing!
