Connecting with your Ancestors Pt. 2
How to Connect: A Step-by-Step Approach
(These are living suggestions — adapt as your ancestors guide you.)
1. Set aside a sacred space / altar for your ancestors
Choose a corner, shelf, small table, or even a box that can travel with you.
Lay a white cloth or other neutral cloth as a base (white often used in Hoodoo for purity / spirit work).
Represent the four elements:
Fire → a candle (often white)
Water → a cup or bowl of clean water (a “line” for spirit)
Air → incense or smudge
Earth → herbs, roots, stones, dirt, a small plant
Place photos, mementos, or personal items tied to ancestors you know (or whose energy you feel)
Offerings: put what your ancestors liked or symbolic items (food, drink, tobacco, fruit, sweet tea, coins)
2. Cleanse & consecrate the space
Clean the area physically first (dust, clear clutter).
Use smoke, incense, or herbal smoke (ex: sage, cedar, rosemary) to purify.
Sprinkle holy/ritual water or Florida water around the altar.
Use a consecration prayer or blessing to set intention: “This is a place of communion with my blood, my line, my ancestors.”

Thank you!
