Uncrossing + Hex -Breaking
Primary intention: Break the hex/curse, remove unwanted attachments, restore personal power and protection.
Best days/times: any time you feel called. Many rootworkers choose a waning moon for removals and a new or waxing moon for sealing/protection. Morning baths are traditional for uncrossing rituals. (You can adapt to your work.)
Materials :
Sea salt or kosher salt
Herbs (choose any combination of: hyssop, rue, rosemary, lavender, garlic, frankincense, vervain, hyssop, sage, nettle, rue, hyssop, rue, rosemary, lavender, frankincense, garlic, vervain, nettle, myrrh. All are used in uncrossing
Van Van or Uncrossing oil (for anointing — (You can make your own oils)
A white or black candle (white = purification/light; black = absorbing/protective)
A bowl or jar, black cloth or handkerchief
A small mojo bag (red or black cloth) or clean jar for holding herbs afterward
Optional: a small piece of bread and pinch of salt (follow-up burying ritual), or running water to carry trouble away. (Bread & salt removals are a working used in conjure.)
Preparation
1. Clean your physical space. Sweep, open a window if possible, set intention. Clean the area where you’ll work.
2. Dress simply. If you use psalms, have them ready (Psalm 51 and Psalm 37 are traditional choices for purification/uncrossing in some hoodoo lineages).
3. Make a strong herbal decoction: simmer a generous handful of your chosen herbs (hyssop, rue, rosemary, lavender, frankincense resin or myrrh etc) in 2–3 cups water for 10–15 minutes, then cool and strain. Add a half cup of sea salt to the cooled brew.
The Bath / Wash (Day 1 — the Uncrossing)
1. Light your candle. Face east (or whichever direction you work) and say your intention out loud: EXAMPLE
“With this water, I wash away every bind, jinx, and hex that does not belong to me. I call back my power. I am free.”
2. Stand in the shower or over a tub. Pour the herbal water slowly over your head three, seven, or nine times (choose the number that feels right). As you pour, visualize dark threads dissolving and flowing down the drain. You may also recite Psalm 51 or Psalm 37 as you pour for an extra boost.
3. Do not towel dry if possible; allow air-drying or pat gently never rub aggressively. Dispose of the used herbs and water by burying them away from your home or pouring them into running water (a stream, not the sink, but the toilet works. ) to send the negativity away. If burying anything, wrap in a black cloth.
The Candle & Oil Work (Day 2)
1. Anoint your white candle’s base and wick with Van Van Oil or Uncrossing oil, a little goes a long way. Light the candle, place it in front of you, and focus. (You can create your own oils. Base+Herbs+Intention)
2. Say a spoken spell (use your voice; and your words, they matter). Example script
“By salt and herb, by oil and flame,
I strip this hex, I break this chain.
Return what’s mine, send harm away
In light and balance, so it stay.”
Repeat while visualizing the knot of the hex untying and dissolving into smoke. Let the candle burn down safely (or burn for a set time and snuff, never blow).
Make an Uncrossing Mojo / Seal
1. Into a small mojo bag put: a pinch of rue, a pinch of hyssop, a pinch of rosemary, a few grains of salt, a scrap of black cloth with the name of the person (or “Your name”) written on it. Add a bead of oil to the outside of the bag.
2. Seal the bag by knotting it and pass it through the smoke of your candle or frankincense/myrrh smoke. Keep it on your person (pocket) for 7–13 days or bury it at a crossroads / throw into running water to carry away the last threads. (Your soul will tell you)
Follow-up removal (bread & salt method) Optional, but if things are heavy, do it.
1. Wrap a piece of bread with a pinch of salt in a black cloth; say: “Let this take what you made, and bring it far from me.”
2. Bury it away from the home or toss into running water. This is a old method that my Granny used to “feed” and carry away a hex or curse
