Packing an order

I remember when I first started selling my homemade wax melts and candles online; one of my biggest worries was how to get them to my customers safely. It’s not just about getting it from point A to point B, but ensuring everything arrives in pristine condition, ready for enjoyment. After a lot of trial and error, I've developed a reliable system for packing an order that ensures every scented treasure arrives just as it left my studio. It gives me so much peace of mind! First things first, gather your supplies! You’ll need sturdy shipping boxes, and I always opt for double-walled for extra protection, especially if shipping glass jar candles, which can be quite delicate. Plenty of cushioning material is also essential. I love using crinkle paper, biodegradable packing peanuts, or even bubble wrap. Don't forget strong packing tape – the wider, the better – and clear, easy-to-read shipping labels. Having everything laid out before I start packing an order makes the process so much smoother. For wax melts, individual packaging is key. I usually place them in small, sealed cellophane bags or clamshells to prevent any scent transfer or crumbling during transit. Then, I nestle them tightly within the box, using crinkle paper or tissue paper to fill any gaps. The goal is absolutely no movement inside the box; if it can shift, it can break. For candles, especially those in glass containers, I wrap each one individually in bubble wrap, securing it with tape. For extra protection, I might even place them in a snug-fitting inner box before putting them into the main shipping box. Again, plenty of void fill around them is crucial. Imagine the box being dropped – you want everything inside to stay put! Temperature control is a huge consideration, especially if you're shipping wax melts or candles in warmer weather. Wax products can easily melt or warp. During summer months, I often include a small, reusable ice pack wrapped in a plastic bag to prevent any condensation from reaching the products. It's important to make sure it's not directly touching the items. I also add a 'Fragile' or 'Keep Cool' sticker to the outside of the box and advise my customers to retrieve their packages quickly upon delivery. Beyond protection, I love making the unboxing experience special. A handwritten thank-you note, a small sample, or even just beautifully arranged tissue paper and a ribbon can make a huge difference. It’s all part of making your customers feel valued and turning a simple delivery into a delightful moment. Once everything is snug and beautifully presented, seal your box securely with strong packing tape, reinforcing all seams and edges. Print your shipping label clearly and affix it to the largest side of the box, ensuring the barcode is flat and scannable. Double-check the address – a small mistake here can lead to big headaches and disappointed customers! Before I send off any parcel for shipping, I always give it a gentle shake test. If I hear anything shifting, I add more cushioning. It's a small but vital step that gives me peace of mind, knowing I've done everything I can to ensure my customers receive their order in perfect condition. Happy shipping!
