MY HONEST OPINION ON MY CAMERA 🎞️
I have had my camera for a little over a year so I feel it is finally time to put my opinion out there and if I believe this camera is worth it or not.
For starters - I am a (beginner) professional photographer. I know the in’s and out’s of photography fairly well if I do say so. But…I didn’t want to lug my gigantic camera around just to capture memories; I wanted something to just stick in my bag, shoot in auto, and call it a day. To add, I have also used BOTH, the g7x & sx740 hs.
——
Now, for my thoughts! When I first got it, I tried to shoot in manual but I didn’t feel like having to change it on every occasion. So I put it right on auto and forced the flash. If I’m being honest, I could definitely get a better result if I shot on manual but like I said, I didn’t feel like dealing with that. The flip screen is SUPER convenient, I feel that is one of my favorite features on the camera. The coloring on this camera gives it that “digital” timeless feel. When I shot on the g7x, I felt it was almost complicated to get that perfect picture. Even if you shoot in auto- you can play with things like the saturation which I won’t lie was something I liked about that camera. I personally, really just like the coloring better on the sx740 hs. I also feel the pricing on the g7x is a litttttllleeee much, $799.99 compared to $479.99 for a product that’s almost identical is insane. Another thing on the g7x is they have a touchscreen and the sx740 hs does not. But again, I wouldn’t pay $799.99 just to have that!

The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS has been my go-to for over a year now, and I’ve got even more to share beyond my initial thoughts, especially given how many of you asked about specific features! Let's talk more about that flip screen, which is truly a game-changer. Seriously, for anyone who loves taking selfies or even dabbling in a bit of vlogging, this feature is golden. You know how annoying it is to guess if you’re in frame? With the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS flip screen, you can see exactly what you’re shooting, whether it’s a solo shot of your outfit, a group selfie with friends, or a quick video diary entry. It makes framing so much easier and means fewer retakes. I've found it super reliable for quick snaps when I'm out and about, ensuring I catch those candid moments perfectly. This compact camera, with its visible black lens and cream-colored case, isn't just pretty; it's practical. Now, regarding image quality and that unique "digital timeless feel" I mentioned – it’s a vibe! While I know shooting in manual could technically yield 'better' results, the auto mode on the SX740 HS is surprisingly capable. What I adore is how it renders colors. It’s not overly saturated or artificially bright; instead, it has this slightly desaturated, almost nostalgic quality that makes photos feel genuine and less 'edited.' This is where I truly feel it shines compared to other compacts – it just has a certain character. For social media posts, these images often stand out because they don't look like everyone else's phone pictures. Think natural light portraits, street photography, or even just capturing your daily coffee – the results are consistently charming. Another aspect worth highlighting is the flash. While I initially mentioned just "forcing" it, I've come to appreciate its role in certain situations. It’s not an overpowering, harsh flash like some older cameras. Instead, it can add a lovely fill light to backlit subjects or create that classic, slightly gritty digital camera aesthetic in low-light conditions. If you're going for that Y2K or early 2000s digital camera look that's so popular right now, experimenting with the built-in flash on the SX740 HS is definitely the way to go. It adds a pop of character to indoor shots or evening photos, giving them an authentic feel. So, is the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS worth it? Absolutely, but with a caveat: it depends on what you need. If you're a professional needing absolute control and pristine RAW files, probably not your main camera. But if you're like me – someone who wants to capture everyday life, spontaneous memories, and fun selfies without the bulk of a DSLR, and you appreciate a unique digital aesthetic, then yes, it's incredibly worth the investment. It’s a fantastic camera for beginners, travelers, or anyone who wants a reliable, portable point-and-shoot that delivers charming, distinctive photos and makes taking selfies a breeze thanks to that fantastic flip screen. It truly hits the sweet spot for convenience and character.

i want the sx740 hs but everywhere i look to purchase it , its wayyyyy over retail price 😭💔
