What I learned when I saw a dietitian

I used to think working with a dietitian meant being told what not to eat. But using Nourish completely changed that mindset.

Through my sessions, I’ve learned that healthy eating isn’t about restriction, it’s about adding what your body needs. More fiber, more protein, more color, more grace. 🌱

One of the most surprising things? I’ve never felt judged. Not once. My dietitian met me where I was, without shame or guilt. He helped me understand my own eating patterns, especially how much my cycle impacts my cravings, energy levels, and hunger cues.

We made simple, realistic swaps I’d honestly never thought of before. Ways to add protein without changing my entire routine, or how to keep snacks satisfying instead of just filling.

This experience reminded me: taking care of your body should feel like care. Not punishment. Not perfection. Just progress. 💛

... Read moreWorking with a dietitian can significantly shift how we perceive food and nutrition. Contrary to common beliefs that dietitians enforce strict eating rules, many focus on a more balanced and intuitive approach that promotes overall wellness rather than deprivation. Nutrition experts emphasize personalized care, meeting clients where they are in their health journey, and tailoring advice to individual needs and lifestyle. One key insight dietitians often share is the importance of understanding the body’s signals, such as cravings and hunger cues, which can vary due to factors like hormonal cycles. This awareness can help individuals make smarter food choices that enhance energy levels and mood throughout the day. Incorporating more fiber and protein, as well as colorful fruits and vegetables, supports digestion, satiety, and nutrient intake without feeling like a chore. Simple swaps suggested by dietitians might include adding plant-based proteins or nutrient-rich snacks that satisfy cravings without empty calories. Moreover, the psychological aspect of nutrition is critical. A nonjudgmental and supportive relationship with a dietitian reduces feelings of shame or guilt around eating and encourages a mindset focused on progress, not perfection. This compassionate approach aligns with current trends like intuitive and gentle nutrition, which prioritize food freedom and sustainable habits over strict dieting. Overall, a dietitian's guidance is invaluable for anyone seeking a healthier relationship with food and their body, emphasizing care, balance, and long-term wellbeing rather than quick fixes or punishing restrictions. This holistic perspective can inspire lasting positive change and improve quality of life.

What I’ve Learned Since My Dad Passed Away 🕊
