Letting go is hard… holding on is painful.

2024/10/16 Edited to

... Read moreI’ve been there, staring at my phone, replaying conversations, wondering if I made the right choice to step away. For someone who’s an overthinker and loves so deeply, the idea of letting go feels like tearing a piece of your soul out. The original thought, 'Letting go is hard… holding on is painful,' resonates so profoundly because it captures that agonizing dilemma. You know something isn't right, it's weighing heavy on you, yet the fear of the unknown, or the hope for what *could be*, keeps you tethered to a situation that's actively hurting you. I used to ask myself, 'Why continue to suffer?' It felt like a rhetorical question, yet I couldn't answer it. It wasn't about not wanting to be happy; it was about the sheer difficulty of initiating that change. The truth I had to confront was that holding on hurts more than the initial sting of letting go. It was a slow, constant bleed of my energy and self-worth. It’s like trying to force something that’s clearly trying to get away from you – whether it's a person, a dream, or even a self-limiting belief. My turning point came when I truly started to understand that you have to value yourself more than that person or situation. It's not selfish; it's self-preservation. When you realize that your peace, your joy, and your future happiness are worth fighting for, the perspective shifts. It’s about giving yourself permission to choose yourself. Letting go is not easy, especially when you've invested so much emotionally. There were days I felt like I was failing, that I was weak for missing what I was trying to release. But then I'd remember the constant pain, the feeling of being diminished, and I'd recommit to the path. It's a daily, sometimes hourly, choice. What helped me immensely was to trust the process of letting go. It’s not a one-time event; it's a series of small releases. Sometimes it’s letting go of expectations, other times it’s letting go of anger, or even the version of yourself you were with that person or in that situation. I started visualizing these burdens lifting, like leaves carried away by a stream, or a heavy cloak slipping off my shoulders. These mental 'pictures' helped me manage the emotional weight. And the most beautiful part? When you let go of what's not meant for you, you automatically give yourself a chance to find what is. It's not about being bitter or closed off; it’s about creating space. Space for new beginnings, for healthier relationships, for deeper self-discovery. It’s about healing the wounds so you can truly embrace the good that’s waiting. So if you're struggling right now, know that this pain is valid, but so is your capacity to heal and thrive. Choose yourself, trust the process, and watch as peace slowly but surely finds its way back to you.
