Hold on a lil longer
There are nights I rehearse my goodbye
without ever saying the words.
I fold my pain into quiet places,
hide it behind tired smiles,
and wear “I’m okay”
like it’s stitched into my skin.
I have begged the weight on my chest
to loosen its grip,
but every morning
it finds me again.
I’ve wanted to throw in the white towel,
to stop fighting battles
no one can see,
to let the silence
finally win.
But then…
I hear a little voice call me “Mama.”
And suddenly,
my broken heart remembers
it still has a purpose.
So I wipe tears
he’ll never know I cried.
I stand on legs
that feel too weak to carry me.
I fight wars
he’ll never have to witness.
Not because I’m fearless.
But because somewhere inside this shattered soul
is a mother
who refuses to let her son
grow up believing
she stopped fighting for him.
The truth is…
It’s not getting easier.
The nights are still long.
The tears still fall.
The ache still lingers.
But until my heart learns
how to carry this pain a little lighter,
I’ll keep choosing tomorrow.
For him.
And maybe…
one day…
I’ll finally choose it for me too.
