Early on, I was encouraged to 'honor my feelings' within a support group setting. However, I realized that some of my feelings were rooted more in what I thought should have happened rather than what actually was. This mental rumination created an emotional weight that slowed down my healing instead of supporting it. Through deep reflection and self-love practices, I gradually learned to identify which emotional responses were truly reflective of my lived reality and which stemmed from imagined scenarios and endless 'what ifs.' This shift was crucial: by not giving energy to the feelings that were causing me harm, I created space for genuine healing to emerge. For anyone on a grief journey, it's important to recognize that not every feeling needs to be held onto or honored. Sometimes, moving forward means gently questioning our emotions and choosing to release those that trap us in cycles of pain. Reframing grief in this way doesn’t diminish its significance but instead aligns emotional response with reality, leading to healthier healing. Incorporating mindful practices and seeking guidance from coaches or therapists specializing in grief and mindset can be transformative. Embracing self-love and cultivating a compassionate mindset helped me significantly. It’s a reminder that healing is not linear and that honoring your true feelings—rather than any and all feelings—can free you from prolonged suffering and lead to renewed peace.
