🗡️ Throne of Glass Debate!!
✨📚 Throne of Glass Reading Order Debate: Should You Read Assassin’s Blade First? 📚✨
One of the biggest debates in the SJM fandom:
👉 Do you start with Assassin’s Blade or Throne of Glass?
Here’s my take after reading the series:
⸻
Reading Assassin’s Blade FIRST:
✅ You meet Celaena at her peak — strong, sassy, and already carrying the weight of her past.
✅ Key relationships (like Sam 🥹) hit so much harder when you see them firsthand.
✅ Her trauma and growth throughout the series feel deeper and more emotional.
✅ The world-building and small easter eggs in later books make more sense right away.
⸻
Reading Assassin’s Blade AFTER:
✅ You experience Celaena’s mystery unfolding slowly.
✅ It works as a “flashback” after you’re already invested.
❌ But… some emotional punches later don’t land as hard if you don’t know her full backstory early on.
⸻
🌟 MY PICK: Assassin’s Blade First
It made me fully connect with Celaena from page one. Knowing what she’s already survived made every moment after feel heavier, richer, and more meaningful. 💔🔥

In the world of fantasy literature, the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas has garnered a dedicated fanbase. Many readers often discuss the ideal reading order for the series, particularly the conflict between starting with "Assassin’s Blade" or jumping into "Throne of Glass" directly. Each choice alters the reading experience significantly. If you choose to read "Assassin’s Blade" first, you gain deeper insights into Celaena Sardothien’s character, her relationships, and her emotional journey right from the beginning. This prequel introduces readers to key characters and their backstories, allowing for a richer connection as you progress through the series. Conversely, beginning with "Throne of Glass" offers a sense of mystery surrounding Celaena, creating a sense of suspense as her past unfolds gradually. While some emotional depth may be lost if the prequel is read later, the choice ultimately depends on personal preference and desired reading experience. Engaging with the community's opinions and experiences can further enhance your journey through Maas’s captivating world.
