Start Traveling, Single Mom Edition
#chicagotrip #chicagogetaway #travelingmomma #momtravel #unfiltered
Being a single mom doesn’t mean my life stopped.
It doesn’t mean my dreams paused.
It doesn’t mean adventure is off the table.
For a while, I thought I had to “wait.”
Wait until things were easier.
Wait until I had more help.
Wait until life felt less overwhelming.
But then I realized… my daughter is watching me.
So instead of holding back the things I love, I’m bringing her with me. 🤍
Chicago was everything.
Seeing The Bean for the first time? Unreal. I’ve wanted to stand there for years, and doing it with my baby beside me made it even more special. Watching our reflections curve into that giant silver sky… it felt symbolic. Like we’re shaping our own story.
We found the sweetest little mom-and-pop shop. The kind that reminds you why small businesses matter. And Honey Bear?? Absolutely AMAZING food. The type of meal that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. 😭
The Cultural Center was beautiful. So much history. So much art. So much inspiration. And the best part? Experiencing it through her curious little eyes.
Here’s what I’m learning:
Being a single mom doesn’t mean playing small.
It doesn’t mean life is only responsibility and survival.
It means I get to show my daughter what courage looks like.
What independence looks like.
What joy looks like.
We are allowed to travel.
We are allowed to build memories.
We are allowed to LIVE.
And we’re just getting started.
Next stop: Atlanta, Georgia ✈️🍑
To the moms following me especially the ones doing this on their own…don’t wait for perfect. Don’t wait for permission. Take the trip. Book the flight. Go see the city.
Your kids won’t remember how “hard” it was.
They’ll remember that you showed them the world.
And that? That’s legacy. 🤍✨
Traveling as a single mom is truly a transformative experience. I remember the first time I took my child along on a trip—it was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. The key is to embrace the journey wholeheartedly and not wait for all conditions to be perfect because perfection seldom exists in parenting or travel. One of the best parts of traveling with kids as a solo parent is witnessing the world through their fresh eyes. Visiting renowned landmarks, like Chicago’s Millennium Park and The Bean, sparks their curiosity and creates lasting impressions that go beyond typical sightseeing. Small adventures, such as finding unique mom-and-pop shops or tasting local delicacies, enrich the trip with genuine cultural experiences that you both treasure. Additionally, exploring cultural centers exposes children to history, art, and diverse perspectives, sparking inspiration and broadening their horizons. My personal advice is to plan flexible itineraries that accommodate the unpredictable nature of traveling with little ones, ensuring moments of rest and fun balance out the busy schedules. Travel also teaches invaluable life skills such as adaptability, resilience, and independence—not just for the kids, but for single moms too. It’s a way to model living fully and courageously despite challenges. Remember, these trips offer more than just a break from routine; they build a legacy of shared experiences and empower both mother and child. So if you’re a single mom hesitating to start your travel adventures, don’t hold back. Book that flight, explore new cities, and create memories that your children will cherish forever. Showing your kids the world is one of the greatest gifts you can give—a legacy of courage, joy, and boundless possibility.
