It helps release built-up tension and brings focus back to the present moment through physical movement. Another technique that has helped me is engaging with non-fiction reading material. Unlike fiction, non-fiction tends to anchor my thoughts with facts and knowledge, which can stabilize an overstimulated mind by redirecting attention in a calm, structured way. Additionally, regularly reassessing and rearranging my priorities has been fundamental for nervous system regulation. Overwhelm often stems from misaligned goals or too many commitments. By setting clear, manageable objectives and saying no to less essential tasks, I create mental space to recover and maintain balance. Incorporating mindfulness practices such as deep breathing or meditation alongside these methods can also enhance nervous system resilience. Ultimately, it's about listening to your body's signals and giving yourself permission to slow down when needed. These small but consistent habits have significantly improved my ability to stay regulated and reduce episodes of overstimulation.
