RATE MY SKINCARE EMPTIES 🧖🏾♀️
🤍 When I tell you I have been saving up these empties for MONTHS!! Sephora has a recycling bin in their stores for empty products, but since these 10 year olds are taking it over, I have vowed to shop strictly online.
🤍 First up, you have seen me talk about this hyaluronic acid serum ENDLESSLY. If you heavn’t, check out my other skincare posts! This is the Hadalabo Rhoto Mentholatum Milky Lotion. It has numerous variations of hyaluronic acid, which moisturizes the skin and promotes barrier health. I LOVE this stuff! If you have oily skin, there is a watery version you can try. Since I have dry skin, this is a MUST in my winter skincare routine. It’s definitely a 10/10!
🤍 Next is this Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. It is just what it says, a cleansing gel. To give it some credit, it properly cleanses my skin without stripping it, but for $52 it should do it’s job. I give it a 6/10.
🤍 Up next, is the Inkey List Fulvic Acid Cleanser. This stuff is pretty good! I have seen a difference in my hyperpigmentation with continued use. I especially like using this whenever I want to simplify my routine, but I still want to target my hyperpigmentation! I give it an 8.5/10.
🤍 This Supergoop sunscreen was EVERYTHING to me when I was using it! It didn’t sting my eyes like sunscreens of past did, and it didn’t leave me feeling greasy and oily. The ONLY drawback of this sunscreen is the PRICE!!! Miss ma’am in this inflated economy, we all don’t have nearly $50 to spend on a ~2oz sunscreen. If I were you, I would opt for the Inisfree sunscreen which is ~$35 for 8oz, and it works and operates the same way, with the same spectacular results, 9/10!
🤍 The DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is, as you’ve heard me rave in previous posts, is one of the two best cleansing oils I have tried. It melts off my makeup seamlessly, while getting rid of dirt and excess sebum. Once washed off, there was no sticky film or cast before cleansing; it left a comfortable clean which is the best base for my second cleanser. I give it a 9.5/10!
🤍 The last empty that I have bought 5 times already is this COSRX Snail 96 Mucin. Y’all already know that this is such all the rave, but I don’t try skincare because it’s viral, I try it because it’s a good product with good ingredients. I have never been led astray with Korean skincare, and this is no exception. This Snail Mucin is so beneficial to even the skin tone and promote anti-aging. It's easy to get swept up in viral products and trends, but truly rating my skin care involves more than just following the crowd. I've learned a few things over the years that help me thoughtfully evaluate my products, and I want to share them with you! First, let's talk about efficacy. Does the product actually do what it claims? For example, if you're using a hyaluronic acid serum for hydration, do you feel your skin is more plump and moisturized throughout the day? With a brightening cleanser, are you noticing a subtle improvement in your skin tone over several weeks? It's not always instant, but there should be a noticeable difference over time. I always take a mental note (or even a quick photo!) when I start a new product and check back after a month or two. Next up is skin compatibility. This is HUGE. What works wonders for one person might not be right for another. If you have dry skin, a rich, milky lotion might be your holy grail, but someone with oily skin might find it too heavy and prefer a watery lotion instead. Pay attention to how your skin reacts. Does that new cleansing gel leave your skin feeling tight or stripped, or perfectly clean and balanced? My dry skin definitely thrives on richer textures, especially in winter, and I've learned to listen to what my skin tells me. Texture and feel also play a big role in whether I'll repurchase. Skincare should be an enjoyable experience! I love a cleansing oil that melts off makeup seamlessly and rinses clean without any sticky residue. If a product feels greasy, pills under makeup, or has an overpowering scent that irritates me, it's probably not a long-term keeper, no matter how good the ingredients are. Finally, let's talk about value for money. This is where my empties ratings get really honest. Sometimes a product is amazing, but the price point just isn't sustainable for daily use. That's when I start looking for dupes or more affordable alternatives that offer similar benefits, like my experience with finding a more budget-friendly sunscreen. It's about finding that balance between quality and cost that works for your budget. When rating my skin care products, I also consider the ingredients. While I’m not a chemist, I do a little research to understand what key ingredients like essence or snail mucin are supposed to do for my skin. Knowing the 'why' behind an ingredient helps me understand if it's truly contributing to my skincare goals. My best advice? Be patient and consistent. Give products enough time to work (usually at least 4-6 weeks for most active ingredients). Keep a simple skincare journal if you're introducing a lot of new items, or just pay close attention to how your skin looks and feels each day. By being mindful and listening to your skin, you'll become an expert at truly rating what works best for *you*!
